Little Pea - Amy Krouse Rosenthal,Jen Corace
For more reviews, check out my blog: Craft-Cycle

An absolutely adorable tale that is a silly twist on children not wanting to eat their veggies. In this one, Little Pea dislikes eating his dinner: candy. But if he eats five bites, he gets his favorite dessert: spinach. Is it worth the struggle?

This is such a cute book with beautiful illustrations. The story is simple, but sure to get a smile. A lovely read that is silly and will definitely resonate with young picky eaters.

Dear Boy,
Dear Boy, - Paris Rosenthal,Holly Hatam,Jason Rosenthal
Just like Dear Girl, this book is pretty amazing! It is a powerful, uplifting book, that puts boys in the spotlight. I think all classrooms, libraries, and parents should have a copy of this book as it informs boys that no matter who they are, they are loved, accepted and important.

With a cheerful stance, the book addresses “Dear Boy” as it explains some of the many different circumstances that he might encounter with fun, cute illustrations. The authors explain that it’s okay for “Dear Boy” to not know all the answers to the questions that are presented to him, that being honest is the best choice in a situation, that he don’t always have to play with “boy” toys, and that it’s fun to have different friends for the different things that you do in life. These are just a few of the topics that the authors cover in this book that is sure to give any reader, encouragement and confident to face the day. If you haven’t read Dear Girl, you should check out that book too as they go hand-in-hand with this book. Dear Girl puts girls in the spotlight, giving them the inspiration and motivation to succeed. I highly recommended both books.

Duck! Rabbit!
Duck! Rabbit! - Amy Krouse Rosenthal,Tom Lichtenheld

Duck! Rabbit! is a fun book. It is a great way to teach young students that there is more than one way of seeing things. This book would be great for shared reading because as the book is read the teacher can stop and ask questions to see what students are thinking. Students could also write an opinion piece stating why they think it is a duck or rabbit and why.

Duck! Rabbit! Review
Duck! Rabbit! - Amy Krouse Rosenthal,Tom Lichtenheld

This is a great book to use with younger grades when learning about perspective and point of view. I would use this book in my classroom by having students discuss what they see as we read the book together and than have them compare answers with other classmates in order to understand perspective. Duck! Rabbit!
Duck! Rabbit! - Amy Krouse Rosenthal,Tom Lichtenheld

Duck! Rabbit! by Tom Litchtenheld is a story about how there can be two different views on something, yet both can be right. I love this book, because it allows students to see how and why to end an argument, and to try and see the other person's side.

Guided Reading Level: J

Classroom Activities:

Have students write an opinion piece about whether it is a duck or a rabbit. Have
them include supporting details in their writing.

Discuss how sometimes there is more than one way to see the world.
Both characters in this story are correct because of the optical illusion presented in
the illustrations. This would emphasize that two people can see things differently
and that there is not always just one right answer.
