Shadowdance
Shadowdance - Kristen Callihan

My favorite so far!
Mary and Jack have a dislike of each other (but do they really?) ever since they've met. This takes place about 2 years after the events of Winterblaze. Jack is a Regulator and Mary has newly moved into the same position after "graduating" from being Poppy's assistant. They partner up to find a murderer.
I really like the mix of paranormal historical romance with a side of steampunk thrown in. It really works for me and I love it. It's not quite a 4.5-5* read for me mainly because the main conflict between Mary and Jack could have been at least partially solved with a nice, long, honest conversation. Instead assumptions were made and well, there you go. Yes, there were "reasons" behind it; but isn't that always the case?
I also like that each book is about a different couple and the end of this links to the next book and couple.

A Dance of Cloaks: Book 1 of Shadowdance - David Dalglish

Aaron is Thren Felhorn's son, the son of the head of a Thieves' Guild, a guild determined to be the only one and to wield power like a sword, but Aaron may be following his dad's lead, he may also be about to change everything. Thren may not want Aaron to find any freedom...

It wasn't a bad read, Aaron was an interesting kid, Thren was a little moustache twirling-esque.

Reading progress: 10%.
A Dance of Blades - David Dalglish

Lots of action, some melodrama and at 10% setting off for a road trip.  Seems like a good breaking point for today.

A Dance of Blades - David Dalglish

How quickly the game is afoot, familiar players, new players …

Starts off five years since the end of the first book that was so full of just about everything. The merchants still in disarray and fearful after the attempted takeover by the thieves guilds, Haern and others creating bloodshed and disarray among the guilds.

If anything like the first in series, lots will be happening very quickly with the worldbuilding and politics just getting deliciously more complex with the turn of each page.
