Too Much Science Details
The Flicker Men: A Sampler - Ted Kosmatka

**I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review**
Eric was 31. He had a sister named Marie that felt going for a new job was a good idea. Eric was a researcher. The lab was tucked into a stony hillside. Jeremy had been Eric's friend and now greeted him. There was more than a 150 researchers and he offered Eric a job at Henson Research. Eric decided to take the job. Jeremy said they could carry him for 4 months, then he'd need to show them something, either a published book or one on it's way.
Eric exists mostly in his head and felt what matters is your behavior as long as your intelligence is intact.
I read about 1/3 of this book and just didn't understand stand it. It was a just a bit too technically scientific for me. I just didn't enjoy it.

The Games - Ted Kosmatka Silas Williams in the head geneticist conceiving the next United States's gladiator for the Olympic Games, in this futurist world where genetic manipulation is commonplace and a spectacle. But little does he know what a supercomputer has wrought for their new gladiator: a predator beyond their imagining.

I love this book. It takes place in a futuristic world that is not unbelievable with this amount of science.

I love the description of the gladiator and the slow progression of foreshadowed horror and fear as it grows up.

The pacing was fantastic - I never felt like the story bogged down, and I was eager to always get to the next page to see what would happen next.

Fantastic control of characters and plotline and innovative ideas. Aliens have been done before. AIs have been done before. But this sort of science melded with sports, I have not seen before.

Three and a half stars, rounded down because I don't think it merits a reread. But wonderfully written book.
Recommended for those who like a bit of aliens, science fiction, and dark themes in their books.

Prophet of Bones: A Novel - Ted Kosmatka A thriller with not much excitement based on ideas that have been written about numerous times before. A scientific discovery is made that could have worldwide ramifications, or so we are led to believe. Connections in this book are tenuous at best and hard to fathom at worst. Why should a congressman get involved in the results of a scientific inquiry? Why would someone build a top secret facility with virtually no security? The basic premise of the book is good but the execution leaves something to be desired. In the final scene when tension should be building, the bad guy launches into a lengthy monologue on genetics. Too much time is spent on scientific details while the plot goes through the traditional routine of characters trying to escape from kidnappers. The flow of the story is uneven and a sense of menace never develops until very late in the novel. The author certainly knows his science but the presentation could have been better. For those who feel they really can’t get enough thrillers to read.
