Hell Hound investigates a murder in a blizzard
Frostbound - Sharon Ashwood

Vampire, Talia comes home one evening to find her cousin dead on the living room floor. The police have a bad reputation of seeing a vampire near any murder scene and immediately deciding they're guilty. Talia knows, that despite her innocence, the police will look no further than her fangs and she immediately decides to run. Before she can make it out of the apartment building, she's intercepted by the hell-hound called Lore. Lore also knows that, if caught, Talia won't get a fair trial, but he's not entirely convinced of her innocence. Until he's positive she didn't do it, Lore decides to keep Talia locked up in his own improvised prison. Eventually, they both have to work together to find out who is killing supernatural beings.

Honestly, Frostbound was a good time. I've mentioned before that I hate captive heroine stories, but it was done pretty well here. Talia wasn't kept locked up for long and Lore caught a lot of shit from both her and his friends for doing it in the first place.

There were basically two things that really made this book for me. The first was the blizzard/winter setting. I love winter settings. I also really enjoyed the hell-hound mythology that went into the book. You don't see it done very often and I have to say the hell-hounds here were pretty kick-ass.

My only issue was that there wasn't a lot of world building, which made certain areas of the story confusing, as I hadn't read any of the other novels in the series. However, I think Frostbound still stood well on its own.

Fans of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series and Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series will probably find something to love in this book.

Homeland: The Dark Elf Trilogy, Part 1 (Forgotten Realms: The Legend of Drizzt, Book I) (Bk. 1)
Homeland - R.A. Salvatore Overall, I liked this book. I loved the main character and was rooting for him the entire time. The world is well developed and pulled me right in. Looking back, some of the creatures and places were barely described, yet I somehow walked away with a clear picture in my head. If you like detailed descriptions, going into every characteristic of someone/thing, then be warned. You will not find it here, but I doubt you'll miss it. The story will make you forget you're missing all those details.
So as I've mentioned, the world and characters were great. Now the not so great. It's not written in closed POV. So one paragraph you're in the mind of one character and the next you've switched. I think this would have been so awesome if the POV shifts were separated by a chapter or some formal break. It kept throwing me out of the story and sometimes I felt like i was being hand-fed the story. This is the sole reason I rated this as 4 instead of 5 stars.
With all that said, I would recommend this book to anyone that likes fantasy.

Scorched - Sharon Ashwood 4.5 stars

I really enjoyed Mac's story. We got to see a bit more of The Castle and its inmates. I'll definitely continue on to Ashe's book.

Ravenous - Sharon Ashwood I hated Ben and was a bit surprised at how that plot line developed. I was annoyed with Holly- she was a little too man-crazy. She's starting school, which it mentions means a lot to her, only to have trouble with concentration because she thinking about Alessandro. She was also TSTL at times- She know a certain someone was not exactly safe and she invites him into her house?! I didn't like the "vampire mark" issue and the taking away of free will, but I thought Holly resolved that perfectly on her own. Alessandro also irked me at times. Many times he would deliberately keep information from Holly instead of sharing with her what he found out/knew/ blah, blah, blah. The main story is a HEA, but there are several unresolved plot points. Said plot points are resolved/further investigated in books 2 through 4 (I assume). I'm on the fence about whether or not to read the rest of the series. I did like it, it kept me entertained, and (overall) I liked both main characters. I'm just not sure it I liked it *enough*
