Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman hate each other. Not dislike. Not begrudgingly tolerate. Hate. And they have no problem displaying their feelings through a series of ritualistic passive aggressive maneuvers as they sit across from each other, executive assistants to co-CEOs of a publishing company. Lucy can’t understand Joshua’s joyless, uptight, meticulous approach to his job. Joshua is clearly baffled by Lucy’s overly bright clothes, quirkiness, and Pollyanna attitude.

Now up for the same promotion, their battle of wills has come to a head and Lucy refuses to back down when their latest game could cost her her dream job…But the tension between Lucy and Joshua has also reached its boiling point, and Lucy is discovering that maybe she doesn’t hate Joshua. And maybe, he doesn’t hate her either. Or maybe this is just another game.

My review: No!!!! It's not bad, but it wasn't my cup of tea.

My expectations for this book were way up high, way too high for me to reach, CAUSE I'M A TINY HUMAN BEING AND IT NEEDS TO BE MENTIONED IN EVERY CHAPTER AT LEAST 10 TIMES. Sorry, I'm salty about this.

I mean the writing wasn't bad. When I actually picked the book up, I just flew through the pages. So points for that.

Points also for a few moments when these two didn't make me feel super uncomfortable. I truly enjoy a good hate to love story but man, this one made me feel super weird and just no. Also the twists, if you want to call them that, cause you could see all these revelations come from a mile away.

What I truly loved about the book was the relationship between Lucy and her boss Helen. Those were the moments I truly enjoyed, cause what a wonderful, supportive relationship they had. I wish we could've seen more from Lucy's parents. Those relationships I was much more interested in.

For some reason I really thought I had read more books?! Oh well, I'm still good with the amount of books I read, especially since I finished two books that I kept dragging from one month to the next (well I dnf'd one of them). Anyways. I'm now fully caught up with My Favorite Murder (except for a few extra Fancult videos), so reading is much higher on my priority list once again (I will find an excuse soon enough LOL it's the struggle of someone who loves to read, but also loves podcasts and tv shows and vloggers on youtube. I JUST WANT ALL THE ENTERTAINMENT, to avoid thinking about life)

The Story:

Working this closely with the “enemy” is no easy feat. Lucy and Josh end up side by side and seething with spite after the merger of their two publishing companies into one. This was a really cute enemies to lovers story. I could feel the chemistry between “Lucinda” and Josh long before they were ready to give into it. Unfortunately the story dragged a bit for me and I found my attention could be easily diverted. Overall I enjoyed it. I loved the back and forth between the characters and the fire stoked in Lucy especially when she was being protective of Josh.

This was a light fun read from beginning to end! Nothing like turning 'Don't hate the player hate the game' right on its head lol. I have to admit, enemies to lovers is probably my top loved trope and this was that at its best. I had a few genuine laugh out loud moments while reading this, which makes me look quite the unhinged person to people standing by, but totally worth it. I look forward to reading more from Thorne in the very near future.

Unfortunately I didn't get this finished last year, but I'll hopefully have it done tomorrow. I oscillate between liking it and not, but I'll give it more of a chance as I'd rather not begin a new reading year on a DNF.
