Gwenhwyfar is awful. Just awful. And here's why:
Christianity is not the oldest religion on the planet. So stop acting like it is the ONLY one that matters.
I get it was a sign of the times but I look at it from my own partial Wiccan belief systems. The Druids were there long before anybody else, and they lived just fine. Then the Romans roll in with the Christian God, and kill or convert everyone around them, "saving" them from being heathens. If Christianity was the one true path, it would be much older than it is. If God is so amazing, why do you feel the need to force others to believe this. They should just do it out of awe, not put of fear of being murdered.
And then Gwen is always speaking of God punishing her for not being able to convert her husband. That God is killing her babies for her faults. Um, that's not how God works. God does not punish innocent children, especially for things that are not even related to them. The Bible says babies are without sin because they are so young. Why would he kill a child because someone else isn't doing what society deems righteous?
Because that is all this is: a bunch of men that decide what is and is not sinful. One of the priests even said that people shouldn't educate themselves on the scriptures and leave that to the priests. Because man can get so many wrong meanings from the Word. EXACTLY. That is why I prefer to do my own learning and not rely on some self-righteous asshole to tell me what I should and should not believe.
I hate Gwen's disgust at the Druids and Avalon, even though she has benefited from them. It's hypocritical. And she was willing to cause Arthur to lose subjects and possible a great battle just so he would carry a cross banner and not his Pendragon banner. She literally was willing to risk his life over that trivial thing because they are to be a Christian nation. The tribes damn near rebelled but that's all well and good for her as long as she gets her way.
