Review: Doctor Who: Engines of War [Kindle Edition]
Doctor Who: Engines of War - George Mann

In the last days of the Time War, the Man who used to be The Doctor finds himself crashing to planet Moldox. With the Tantalus Eye swirling above, the Dalek occupation detours from the normal "EX-TER-MIN-ATE! EX-TER-MIN-ATE!" and instead the people find themselves taken captive by the Daleks and the Skaro Degradations.

Cinder is a red-haired woman who fights for the resistance. With her gun and a friend, her world is turned upside-down when her friend is erased from time just before the War Doctor lands. Orphaned from a young age, she hates both the Time Lords and the Daleks for embroiling all Space and Time in a war that will never end.

Together, the War Doctor and Cinder must determine what is different about this Dalek invasion. When they discover the horrors within the ships, the future no longer seems clear and the Man who used to be The Doctor must decide if he can spend one life to save billions.

NOTE: I read this book through netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Chicks Dig Time Lords: A Celebration of Doctor Who by the Women Who Love It - Lynne M. Thomas,Tara O'Shea,Catherynne M. Valente,Sophie Aldred,Elizabeth Bear,Mary Robinette Kowal,Carole E. Barrowman,Seanan McGuire,Jody Lynn Nye,Kate Orman,Lloyd Rose,Lisa Bowerman,Johanna Mead,India Fisher,Jackie Jenkins,Christa Dickson,Deborah Stani I initially believed this book was about female Doctor Who fans celebrating their fandom solidarity by sharing their individual stories of love for the television series. But it quickly turned to disappointment as each woman's story was neither unique nor varied. I read through many stories in which the women professed their undying love for the original Doctor Who but most discussions about the current doctors and their shared love were overshadowed by their criticisms of how the modern female companions failed to match their own ideals of feminism. So much for solidarity.
