I hadn’t read any by either of this duet of authors before, so I had no idea what to expect. I’m glad to say I found myself pleasantly surprised. The fantastical elements were just the right amount, and described/explained just enough for me to grasp and stay tuned as to the happenings. The lack of romance was a little disappointing, although there was an array of choices for the MC. I liked the MC a lot. Evalle is feisty, yet vulnerable, and totally relatable, and the plot seemed well thought out to me. My only bugbear is that the story didn’t exactly end, leaving the reader no choice but to buy the next book and continue reading if they want to find out what happens next. In spite of that, I’d be happy to recommend this book to my friends. It was a decent read. 

First book blues. E was not substantial nor interesting enough to carry such a weighty read. The secondary characters were empty, just names on paper. E was another overly aggressive female constantly defending and protecting herself from others. What she did to Tristan was shady and a bad nite to end on. Just okay

Really, this is a 3 star read for me. The world and characters are full of possibility, but it's clear that it will take more than one book for them to reach their full potential.

The extra star is for Feenix. I can't resist a pet gargoyle that's so ugly it's cute.

I hate to start this review out negatively, but honestly this is not one of the best pieces that Love & Kenyon have put out. Yes, it was fast-paced, well-written and suitably entertaining I find enjoyment in her other characters so much more. Evalle just fell flat for me and being a Sherrilyn Kenyon book I wanted her to just get it on with someone! Especially since all the men that were described were super hawt and the novel was described as a paranormal romance on goodreads, so that was what I expected. *Sigh* So, the perv in me was disappointed, but the book-lover in me enjoyed it. I will move on in the series and this is a great book for Urban Fantasy lovers – that want to 86 the romance. More on Parajunkee.com
