Monstress Volume 1
Monstress Vol. 1 - Sana Takeda,Marjorie M. Liu

4.5 Stars, buy it

The art is gorgeous even if the story is a bit confusing.  And we have talking cats!!! But this is very gory and is definitely for adults only.  The story is extremely intense and is an emotional rollercoaster. I love the little fox character.  One thing I don’t like about this is seeing animals hurt.  I understand why they do it but ugh I hate seeing animals hurt. I was really confused in issue #4, so much so I considered starting at the beginning again. I have to admit I haven’t been reading the lecture sections after each issue because I hate being lectured at. I suppose it would help to understand the confusing world.  I think this comics need cliff notes. LOL. Issue 5 is less confusing but still I’m struggling to understand all of it. I’m going to have to reread this at some point. Issue 6, the end of this volume is left on a cliffhanger and like a lot of the issues is confusing.  Overall, I do recommend the series, the art is amazing and the story (of what I can understand) is pretty amazing too.

Description from Amazon:Set in an alternate matriarchal 1900's Asia, in a richly imagined world of art deco-inflected steampunk, MONSTRESS tells the story of a teenage girl who is struggling to survive the trauma of war, and who shares a mysterious psychic link with a monster of tremendous power, a connection that will transform them both. Entertainment Weekly praised MONSTRESS as "one of Image Comics' most imaginative and daring new series" and dubbed it the "Best New Original Series" in their year-end "Best Comics of 2015" list. Collects MONSTRESS #1-6

Rat Queens vol 3
Rat Queens Vol 3: Demons - Kurtis J. Wiebe

3 stars borrow it.

This volume was a disappointment to me. All the drama with Hannah's dad I didn't like. I finished the violence and cussing and funny lines. Then. Found out that Rat Queens is now only a web comic. Sigh. Hopefully they'll still publish volumes of it. Bummer.

Issue 11 starts with Hannah's dad and the girls being locked up by goblins. Betty's attitude is funny. The girls head off to the University to help Hannah's father and the issue ends with Betty in trouble. Issue 12 the girls find trouble in a dank cave. A more serious issue. chapter 13 is disjointed and all over the place. The girls are at Mage University and each are doing there own thing. Chapter 14. Betty and violet meet Daniel the dragon and it's very funny. There's some really boring stuff with Hannah and her mother. Dee finds out stuff about Hannah's past and is rather upset.

Rat Queens Volume 1
Rat Queens Volume 1: Sass and Sorcery - Kurtis J. Wiebe,Tess Fowler

5 Stars

I’ve already reviewed this before for Netgalley. But as I’ve been away from reading for awhile, I’m reading the collected volumes again to get back into the story line again. (I’m probably going to do this for a couple of series I really liked).  I still love, love, love all the cursing. I’m a woman who curses so I love seeing other woman curse.  My favorite characters are still Betty and Hannah.  I love how the woman love sex and aren’t labeled whores.  Some of the quotes still absolutely kill me. Have I mentioned there is tons of violence? But I don’t mind it.  This series absolutely kicks some major butt.

Artesia Volume 3
Artesia Volume 3: Afire - The Third Book of Dooms - Mark Smylie

5 Stars, buy it.

Self Purchase, Re-read review

This is really an amazing comic series.  The only thing I don’t like is that there is just so much damned text and a lot of it is military maneuvering and I find it hard to follow a lot.  I still have to give it 5 stars because its just amazing. While I don’t read romance or erotica, I wish there was more of it in this series. Artesia is just plain hot. The writing is fantastic, the art is phenomenal (I Love watercolor art) and the story is superb. I honestly can’t say enough of the comic. Also, the characters are really kick ass as well.

In the Prologue, 2 members of her troop (or whatever the correct military term is) go and get into trouble searching for treasure and Artesia has to rescue them. Issue one is more military maneuvering and Artesian agrees to a feast with people she has trapped into a corner. Issue 2 starts with a graphic bang. LOL. Definitely adults only.  It’s hysterical when Artesia is basically having an orgy and the parents, who are rulers of some sort, of some of the men walk in on them getting it on. And again in Issue 3 we have adult scenes at the very beginning. However, things turn more dramatic when a mysterious fog appears and something happens with the captives. Damn this series is amazing- even if a lot of time I have a hard time following it.    Issue 4-6 is basically all political maneuvering.  I really didn’t feel like finishing issue 6, so I just skimmed it.  I can’t remember if Artesia Besieged ever came out when I originally read this series, but I’m hoping if it wasn’t published back then that it will be published now.
