Lady Be Good - Amber Brock

I loved this book, my second one by this author, and sped right through it.

Kitty and Henrietta have been friends forever. They were both born into wealthy families. One a family with roots and wealth and one a newly made wealthy family. Their adventures in this book are fun and frequent.

When Kitty is told that she needs to settle down and told who she will marry, she spends her time finding a way out of this deal. What she comes up with is risky and pretty darn crazy.

An excellent read set at a time (1950) when women were just starting to see this new thing called "independence".

Thanks to Crown Publishing and Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Spring 2016 Debut Fiction Sampler
Sleeping Giants - Sylvain Neuvel This is a difficult publication to review...obviously it's not my typical fiction read but I wanted to include it on my blog all the same because it's a wonderful little reference for readers out there, one that I've grown very fond of and slightly dependent upon. I received this little gem courtesy of Netgalley, and rely on it to gain insight and ideas for what to add to my "to read" shelf and in deciding what to read next. It's made up of a group of different books that were recently released and includes the first couple chapters of each. It's a great way to learn of new releases and get an idea of weather or not a book is going to be enjoyable before purchasing the entire novel. The only problem is when a book starts off so intriguing that I'm frustrated that I don't have the entire publication to enjoy! But I suppose that's a good problem to have.

I received a copy of this publication from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

A Fine Imitation
A Fine Imitation: A Novel - Amber Brock

Vera Bellington is a beautiful bird in a gilded cage, living a life of wealth and privilege but with the constraints society and family impose. A Fine Imitation by Amber Brock is her story against a background of art and the roaring twenties. This book is completely Vera's story, and it remains true to that narrow focus throughout. A static main character? Yes. Predictable? Yes. Entertaining and a quick read? Yes. Memorable? Probably not.

A Fine Imitation by Amber Brock
A Fine Imitation: A Novel - Amber Brock

This is not my normal type of read. This is set in the twenties and follows a women who is unhappy with her life. She is park of the upper crust of society. As glamorous as hogh society life style sounds, it is difficult. The woman's husband hire an artist to paint a mural in their house. Affairs happen, secrets threaten to reveal themselves, and people come to find their true selves.

I loves bed the authors writing. As I said above, this is set in the twenties, the author does a very good job at depicting the period, in all ways: the setting, the dialog, exec the way she writes the story.

I really grew grew to feel like I knew these characters. Some I found to be very annoying, some I liked, some I despised.

I think think what I likes most is the authors writing. It is unique

I received a copy of this book from blogging for books.

A Fine Imitation: A Novel - Amber Brock

#AFINEIMITATION  AVAILABLE NOW!  ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!  5 STARS!  @ambrock @crownpublishing  I LOVED this book! I can't say a lot about it specifically because everything I would mention would be a spoiler. However, I can say that I could not believe her mother and what she did.

There is a lot of fun, then a lot of sadness, then joy in this book and I was not ready for it to end. That, for me, is definitely the sign of a good book. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who loves reading about the society pages, even better if you don't agree with their staunchness. I already miss this book and want to be reading it again!

Huge thanks to Crown Publishing for approving me and to Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest review.
