24 Festive Tasks: Apologies

... for the somewhat uncoordinated way in which we posted the December holidays.

Synching the posting of the final eight holidays didn't work quite as we'd hoped, and what is worse, when we agreed to post the final eight holidays on December 1, with another three doors scheduled to be opened on their actual days, we didn't take into account that the posts for the final holidays, as formatted, would also reveal the tasks for those three technically "regular" holidays.  Since this literally only occurred to us yesterday, there was nothing for it but to post all of the December holidays at the beginning of the month ... with all of the added variance produced by the fact that we're posting from three different continents, with, all told, a 20-hour time difference between the four of us.

To find the proper order of all holidays and tasks, please take a look at the post for Epiphany (Twelfth Night), which MbD posted yesterday.

I will also complete the list of the holidays in this year's festive calendar that I posted in the bingo group at the beginning of the game.

We hope you're still going to have fun with the Festive Tasks game in December!

"The Dialogues of Plato: Parmenides. Theaetetus. Sophist. Statesman. Philebus" by Plato, Benjamin Jowett
Dialogues of Plato: The Apology of Socrates/Crito/Phaedo/Protagoras - Plato,Benjamin Jowett

(Original Review, 2015-08-20)

I must first admit that I know nothing about philosophy and therefore attempting a review of a book of this magnitude makes me approach it with a certain degree of trepidation. But reviews are free so why not take the plunge and as it interests me how we live within this world and make sense of it and how language both facilitate and impedes that process, I might have something to contribute if only my ignorance.

Pearl Weaver's Epic Apology
Pearl Weaver's Epic Apology - Rachel Kee... Pearl Weaver's Epic Apology - Rachel Keener Rating: To Come

*Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!*

I have not read this book yet but I am doing a "preread" review as I do for most of the books I read.

Let me start off my review by saying "I love this cover!!!". It is absolutely stunning. This cover, hands down, is my favorite so far. It's just totally creative, yet simply portrayed, it just draws you in. If I were to give a rating based solely on the cover, I'd give it 10+ stars.

Based on the synopsis, I am super excited to dive into this book. I don't think I have ever read anything with this kind of a story line but it sounds like it will be an 'epic' adventure.

Full review to come upon completing!

The Apology
The Apology - Essa Alroc Seriously. This novella almost broke my brain.

I don't understand what was going on here at all. There was no structure, the flow is awful, and the characters didn't make any sense.

I finally put this thing away at 48 percent.

The Apology follows Jesse looking for Gabrielle (Gabby) to apologize to her over what he did to her in high school. Jesse is a blank slate. I don't even get why this character would think to himself to show up uninvited at someone's home to do this. Why the heck wouldn't you write a letter? But I guess without that logic gap there would have been no novella.

Jesse shows up and there is a cute misunderstanding (not to me, it was painful) about who is he and Gabby asks him for a ride to town because she has decided to leave her husband after witnessing something she should not have.

So Jesse is a jerk. I don't know his story except apparently his life has been horrible since he was awful to Gabby back in high school. Gabby is living the life of Riley and apparently doesn't take notice of anything around her. She vaguely mentions how bad high school was for her, but she doesn't recognize Jesse at all which doesn't make sense when we are clued into the incident which Jesse wants to apologize for later.

It doesn't make any sense why Jesse decides to ingratiate himself into Gabby's life. And what gets me is that Gabby is running from something pretty terrible so the less people who know her whereabouts the better, but yet she's still letting Jesse boss her around and also manhandle her too.

The other characters in this book are not worth mentioning really. We have Gabby's husband who should have just been called foreign character, look and sound evil.

This book is also repetitive. The word apology is in this book it felt like a lot (and I only got to 48 percent). There is no flow. We have things taking place with none of it really making a lot of sense.
