CORPSE COLD: NEW AMERICAN FOLKLORE is a nice volume of tales which also includes outstanding illustrations. Just look at that impressive cover to get an idea of the drawings within.
The stories, however, didn't entirely float my boat. While well written for the most part, they are lacking that certain punch that I enjoy in short tales. This is just my personal view and for someone that hasn't read the hundreds of horror stories that I have? This may seem like the best collection of stories EVER.
My favorite was IT THAT DECAYS. If you weren't afraid of the dentist before, you will be now!
AUTOPLAY ON: This was a fun little tale featuring a You Tube channel that was left on all night. (I guess it's best not to do that?)
MOSS LAKE ISLAND was a neat story that took a weird turn about a third of the way in. It gave me the creeps much like IT THAT DECAYS. I like the creeps.
FRIENDSHIP: BURIED AND DEAD. This tale had a cool concept for a theme park. I would like to go there!
A CASKET FOR MY MOTHER cracked me up, especially since this book was funded in much the same way as the main character wants to fund the purchase of a casket for his mom. (I'm not sure it was meant to be funny, but hey, I'm a sick person-just look at the stuff I read!
A quick word about the illustrations? (Okay, two words.) They're fabulous!
CORPSE COLD would be a perfect introduction into the world of dark fiction for an adult who is not that familiar with or well-read in the genre. Perhaps someone who has participated in a round of campfire storytelling and wants more? Seasoned horror readers, like myself, prefer that extra punch to the gut and a tad more blood/gore as well.
Recommended for those new(er) to horror fiction and dark tales!

Kathryn Meyer Griffith is a prolific writer and I have been loving her work for some time now. Egyptian Heart is a fabulous time travel and alternate history novel that visits the desert sands of Egypt and gives us another look at Nefertiti and the lost necropolis.
I love this gorgeous cover!
MY REVIEWS FOR KATHRYN MEYER GRIFFITH
I have been reading Abigail Owen’s Svatura series, and have reached the end of the road with Black Orchid, Book IV. What a wonderful journey it has been.
Oh no. I have reached the end of the Svatura series with Black Orchid, Book IV, by Abigail Owen. What a fabulous road we have traveled and I can hardly wait to read more of work.
Black Orchid picks up where Crimson Dahlia left off, so you will want to read these in order.
Adelaide Jenner has lost her love, her te’sorthene, which can drive her mad, and she has become a danger to them all.
Nate, poor Nate, her lost love. He doesn’t even know how messed up his life is, though flashes blink in and out at times.
Can they find their way back to each other? They both deal with confusion, but Nate’s is filled with hate and rage, while Adelaide’s has become filled with trust and caring.
Maddox is still determined to kill all the women, Adelaide, Ellie, Selena and Lila, and he plans to use Nate to do it. These women are strong and determined, and as dragons have tremendous power. But will it be enough?
There are intense personal conflicts with many of the characters, and their powers. They work together as a family for support and to heal, while trying to figure out how to mend their broken hearts and minds.
Black Orchid by Abigail Owen is character driven and not all of them will make it out alive. The losses will be heart wrenching.
Abigail Owen has created an amazing magical world. Scenes played out in my mind, like a movie playing out on screen. The final battle will be fought and even if the story is sometimes predictable, it is an unforgettable and wild ride.
When Adelaide describes the bonds of connections and how she heals them, it made me think of Avatar. Now, that is being in very good company.
I wondered if the finale would wrap it up in a way that would make me happy and satisfied, but, no worries. She more than met my expectations, she surpassed them. The action and fight scenes are described in vivid detail, playing out like a film unreeling in my mind. I, especially, loved the dragon fight finale with Maddox.
At the end of the book, Abigail Owen has explanations for the key concepts, characters and their powers.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Black Orchid by Abigail Owen.
MY REVIEWS FOR ABIGAIL OWEN
The Shadowcat Nation
The Svatura Series
Will Robie has accidentally killed a kid based on bad intelligence. He had problem to do his job because it haunted him.
Now, his boss, only referred to as the Blue Man give him leave and asked him to visit his father that he had not seen or talked to for twenty years.
His father was the judge and he was now in custody waiting for his trail for murder.
A local drunk and troublemaker was killed because he imposingly has cheated on had spent the night with the judge's wife.
Now he was not welcome to where he was from.
He father Dan was a violent asshole.
His has now got a hot new stepmother and a younger brother Tyler.
The more he wanted to get to the bottom of this, the more violent persons turned out. Some just wanted to mess him around a bit. While other go directly into shooting.
Lucky that Will is someone not only could fight back, but shoot back too.
Now he needed help. So his long trusted partner Jessica show up and watched his six.
The two are running around following leads.
But not really have a clue. His father Dan was still the jerk and wouldn't be too helpful.
The event also involved pedophile, blackmailing, and young sluts getting into the sex trade.
There are just so few good persons around.
I thought this is going to be boring and they just to sit around talking about feelings.
No. A lot of actions. A lot of shooting and get shot at.
So, something that I like.
The only part I don't like is the hypocritical characters who go to church but tricked children to be molested. Kind of sick.
Overall, a good read. The later part is better as there were more actions.
Solid 4.5 read.
