In the 19th week, the baby is now nearly six to seven inches long and weighs about six to seven ounces.  The facial features are now getting the final shape and the ears and eyes have taken to correct position in the face.

In preparation for birth, a lot of things are happening.  Myelin, a fatty substance is being made which coats the nerves and this insulation makes it possible for electrical impulses to travel from the brain to the tips of the body and back.  The number of nerve cells is now the same as that of an adult.

Week 16 is mid of the 4-month pregnancy.

The week 16 is mid of the 4-month pregnancy. It’s an important week as your baby can now hear you! It may show movements on scans,  whenever you talk. You may start feeling the light flutters which are easily confused with gas. But in few weeks the kicks and turns can be easily recognized.

Your Baby in Week Fourteen

How does your baby look like in the first week of your second trimester?  It is about three to four inches tall, has a neck and the eyes are a little closer above the bridge of the nose.  The arms are proportionately longer than the legs at this stage. Weight would be approximately just a little less than two ounces. Now very fine hair, also known as lanugo is growing all over the body.  This is meant to protect the baby’s skin.  Some hair is developing on the head and eyelashes and eyebrows begin to appear.

This week the growth rate continues to be rapid.

This is the last week of your first trimester.  The baby will have grown to about three inches long.  The head of the baby is now about half the size of the crown to rump length.  All the essential organs of the baby have now developed to some extent.  Though the legs are still small the arms have grown in proportion to the body.  The face is now maturing to look more human.  The ears have come to the right place in the head.  The eyes have moved from the sides to the front of the babyface.

This week the growth rate continues to be rapid.  The organs that have been formed continue to mature.  The kidneys function and now some urine is there in the amniotic fluid.  Hormones are being produced in the placenta along with red blood cells.

Baby's Growth In Week 11
By week eleven, your baby has started to breathe.  The inhaling of small amounts of amniotic fluid is helpful in the development of the lungs.  The baby’s ears are taking position alongside the head and the head still remains disproportionately larger than the rest of the body.
