How to differentiate between various Commerce and Accountancy Courses

Commerce is one of the most popular streams amongst class 12 pass out students in India. A further admission to the best commerce colleges in Mumbai is the next logical step in creating a viable career. Most students thus start creating a personal list of commerce colleges in Mumbai to choose one as per their other choices.

The major benefit for Commerce students over Arts students is that they are eligible for both these subjects. The choice of course at this time, whether for academic or vocational purposes is a crucial decision. The commerce stream can roughly be categorized into two groups, one with mathematics and the other without mathematics. Most of the undergraduate courses are also of three years’ duration.

Both these major groups of commerce have their pros and cons as well as variable salary ranges. However, students find it confusing to differentiate them. Some of the more popular ones to date are:

  • BCom in Accounting and Commerce: This stream is pursued by almost all students irrespective of their choice of subjects in Class 12 but preference is given to those who have studied the commerce subjects. This stream allows specialization in accounting and taxation.

  • BBA LLB: This is an integrated course where students study a combination of law as well as business administration. Any student who has more than 50% marks in Class 12 is eligible for this course. This course allows a student to work as a corporate lawyer in a corporate house.

  • BBA and BMS: Both these courses are a precursor to the more famous higher education MBA course. Both of them teach various subjects that make a graduate proficient in business management. A student who has scored 50% marks in class 12 in any stream may apply for admission to this course.

  • BCA (IT and Software): This course is opted by students who want to later join the world of coding and computer languages. This degree is treated at par with the BTech or BE degree in IT or Computer Science that is available only to students from the science stream in Class 12. Any student with 45 to 55% aggregate marks in Class 12 with mathematics as a subject is eligible to apply for it.

  • CA: This course in chartered accountancy allows one to be registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India that opens up careers as a Chartered Accountant. It is one of the most preferred choices of commerce streams of late in India. A 50% aggregate mark in Class 12 will allow one to pursue the CA course.

  • CS: This too is a very popular course with commerce students that allows them to function as a Company Secretary after registering with the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. An aggregate 50% marks in Class 12 will allow you to apply for this course.

There are over 30 other streams of commerce available if you draw out a list of commerce colleges in Mumbai. The aforementioned courses, however, are available at most of the best colleges in Mumbai Maharashtra that are preferred by the students.
