Snow, Food and Murder
On Thin Icing - Ellie Alexander

I loved all the descriptions of food and scrumptious cooking. A foodie will definitely appreciate that about this book. The mystery wasn't quite as compelling, since too much focus on Jules lovelife for me. Overall, an entertaining book.

My rating: 3.5/5.0 stars.

Gluten Free Baking (Love Food)
Gluten Free Baking (Love Food) - Parragon Books,Love Food Editors I love the attention of detail that is given to different types of gluten-free flours, safe alternatives, and reading food labels. From cupcakes to tortilla wraps to quiche, this book covers all the basics in a tasty fashion.

Unfortunately, the author doesn't seem to realize that sticks of butter can be anywhere from 4 oz to 12 oz in size depending on the brand (if the baker is even using sticks to begin with!), which means you'll need to experiment with a few recipes before figuring out the perfect measurements.

Now on Kindle: Delights and Prejudices
Delights and Prejudices - James Beard
The Art of Eating: 50th Anniversary Edition - M.F.K. Fisher

This was the first foodie book I ever read.  My parents had a copy and I devoured it.  Several times.  There are parts of it I memorized when I was a child.  I reread this book in paperback format recently and it was a very different experience as an adult.  The man was undoubtedly a snob but boy howdy can he describe food.  The opening of chapter on potatoes, the description of the food served by his mother's Chinese-American servants, the oysters...

I still think of appetizers as doots after all these years.

The book was released in Kindle format on 03/03/15.  Link: http://tinyurl.com/prk8fnw

Seeing this reminded me how much I wish MFK Fisher's books were available on kindle, so I went looking to see if maybe they might be and, yes!  Some of them are!  Her books have been available on kindle for a while.  I guess it's been a long time since I looked. Here's a link to The Art of Eating:  http://tinyurl.com/l3fsvvl.  It's a wonderful book. If I didn't have a project to work on for class I would spend this weekend reading it.

These books crack me up. We spend ages peering at them to work out the details of how they're made. Also, we're fans of bad puns.

This is exactly the sort of book that makes the teenagers roll their eyes at me. But I am stalwart. Once I have an image such as one of these in my mind, nothing will do but that I check out every one the library has.
