Lumberjanes Vol. 1 - Brooke Allen,Grace Ellis, Noelle Stevenson

For more reviews, check out my blog: Craft-Cycle

Loved it! An awesome graphic novel filled with adventure, hilarity, and PUNS!

Well-written and very intriguing with great artwork. This is an amazing graphic novel.

My only complaint was the various typos in the Lumberjanes Field Manual pages, but they are pretty minor and not all that important to the overall story.

The artwork in this book is fantastic. I really liked how all of the Lumberjanes actually look different. You can tell they weren't drawn by a man who tries to use the "Frozen excuse" ("How do you draw different women-folk who look different but are still attractive! Ah! Female characters are so hard to draw! Men are so much easier!"). Even their nose shapes are different in this one. A refreshing change to the world of comics where every woman is based off the same goddess-like archetype. Very, very well-done.

I also really liked the story. This is a wonderful start to a series. It gives just enough information to keep you interested and wanting to read more without frustrating you with the mysteries of the plot. Perfection!

I really enjoyed the story in the book and look forward to continuing the series.

Lumberjanes Vol. 1
Lumberjanes Vol. 1 - Brooke Allen,Grace Ellis, Noelle Stevenson I think I went into this with my expectations too high. I expected to love it, because a lot of people I share similar tastes in books with loved and raved about it, but I wasn't wowed. It was a fun read, and I liked it, but I don't think I liked it enough to read more. Maybe, someday, but I won't be rushing to get the next installment. The artwork was great, but the story just didn't really grab and hold my attention.

A warm great series reminding me of Runaways
Lumberjanes Vol. 1 - Brooke Allen,Grace Ellis, Noelle Stevenson
Lumberjanes Vol. 2 - Noelle Stevenson
Lumberjanes Vol. 3 - Shannon Watters
Lumberjanes Vol. 4: Out Of Time - Noelle Stevenson,Shannon Watters,Grace Ellis,Brooke Allen

The first four volumes is a great warm series. The story is new, fun and mysterious. Noelle Stevenson definitely puts her great story-telling abilities to good use in this series. All characters are cute and fun in a natural way. This reminds me of Nimona also by Noelle. I don't know how to describe it, but the story always move in some peculiar pace that's unpredictable yet fun to read.

There is no single one most prominent character in this series. Yet all characters shine beautifully. The last series that accomplish this I have read is Runaways by Brian Vaughan. Unfortunately, like Runaways, this series made a a bad turn when the original storyteller left the team, as the vol.5 and vol.6 are not good at all without Noelle Stevenson.
