Boy Erased: A Memoir - Garrard Conley

Given the subject matter, I knew this was going to piss me off in certain ways but have gotten so frustrated about at least five or so times and I am only 15% into the freaking book!

Verdict? It was okay. Some awesome points, some...not so awesome.
Rikki (Hart University Book 1) - Abigail Strom

Review TC. Verdict? I'm probably going to put it about 3 stars because I'm torn. It started off awesome for about 60% of the novel. Then in the latter part it tried to throw too many curveballs at the last bit and while I thought they were dealt with in a responsible way (waaaaay better than most NA), it still didn't quite have the same spark as the first part of the novel did for me.

Just about 63 pages in
Rikki (Hart University Book 1) - Abigail Strom

Tamsin's a seriously cool roommate.

And also, it tells you something about how much I'm enjoying this when I'm laughing over several scenes/phrases in this book. It's actually really cute.

The only thing I can say that works against it (well, for and against) is the brevity. Super fast read, but the details are minimal.

I'm trying not to speak too soon, but I think I might like this NA
Rikki (Hart University Book 1) - Abigail Strom
"I don't believe in slut-shaming girls for how they dress or do their makeup or..."

"How many guys they've slept with?"

"That either. No one should be shamed for their choices."

Tamsin looked at me for a moment. "You know something?"

"What?"

"I like you. You're nice."

***

Thank goodness this is going mostly against the grain of NA trends. Stay awesome, Rikki.

  • Oh, and bonus points for:

The heroine's lesbian mothers having a prominent role.

The heroine gradually becoming friends with another female character (and not shaming her).

Showing that the heroine has a little bit of envy over attention to her LI (because: unresolved sexual tension), but not putting it to the point where she puts down other women.

    I might like this book.
