Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What do you see, written by Bill Martin Jr, & Eric Carle, is an amazing story especially for children who love animals! The book describes different animals in the wild. The illustrations are so abstract and colorful! I can use this book in my classroom when learning about different animals. I can have the students determine which of the animals listed in the book live on land and which live on water. I can also have the students research one of the animals in the book and discuss it with the class.

Describing Archives: A Content Standard ...

So I have all semester to read this book.  I'm trying to push through today and tomorrow. 

It's soooooo boring.   Like so, so, so, so very, very, very boring.  I know it's important, but man. 

I'm just gonna get through it and then only have to look up what I need, I swear to Primus, because I will cry if this drags on all semester.

I will use this book to introduce character traits and describing a character in depth. Lilly is a very vibrant character. This book is a great way for students to describe a character's traits. As a class, we will fill out an anchor chart on Lilly together. We will discuss that character traits describe a character's attitude and behavior and that physical traits describe how a character looks. Physical traits will be written in purple on the chart, and character traits will be written in black. The class will use evidence from the text to help describe Lilly. Afterwards, students will make Lilly using construction paper. They will attach a piece of paper where they write a couple of sentences describing themselves using character traits as if they were Lilly.

I had such hopes for this book, but it was a complete disappointment. With all this talk about describing personality traits and creating unforgettable characters, I expected it to be more than just a bunch of words. But that was all it was - nothing more, nothing less. This book - for lack of a better word - is a list of synonyms for 67 words. Being a fan of big words, a lot of these already know - and they are easily accessible online or via websites such as dictionary.com. I guess having them all here in one place is a good idea, but I can't imagine paying $2.99 for what amounts to a long list of words.
