Global Elastomeric Infusion System Market: Elastomeric infusion pumps are also known as balloon pumps. These are non-electronic and disposable in nature that delivers fluids such as analgesics, and antibiotics, among others into the patient’s body in controlled amounts. The pressure for administering the drug comes from the elastomeric layer that placed inside the pump. When the pump is filled, the layer gets stretched and the elastomeric constriction drives the liquid through the tubing and eventually through a flow restrictor out to patient’s connection. An elastomeric pump does not require electricity and not based on gravity. Placing the elastomeric pump above or below the patient, the pressure differ slightly. Elastomeric pump should be filled through a one-way valve using peristaltic repeater pump or a syringe. The pressure is constant through the end of the infusion. Time of the drug delivery depends upon the size of elastomeric infusion pump, usually ranging from thirty minutes to seven days.
The positive growth factors for elastomeric infusion system market is increase in adoption, growing demand for small disposable infusion pumps, and its wide range of application in various fluid drug delivery systems. In addition, increase in number of surgeries as a result of increased rate of hospitalization that ultimately increases the demand for elastomeric pumps for postoperative pain management conditions. Elastomeric infusion pump system offers several advantages over electronic pumps including portability, feasible demonstration, low weight, size, ease of use, and less interference with sleep. However, difficulties in detection of delivery rate accuracy, and abnormal drug delivery are restraining factors for growth of the market. Furthermore, increasing R&D costs and frequent product recalls, mostly due to design flaws, are expected to hamper the elastomeric infusion system market.

Elastomeric infusion system market is expected to show significant growth rate owing to rise in demand for disposable ambulatory infusion pumps. Market players are actively participating in innovative strategies to expand their market share. For instance in April 2017, B. Braun Medical Inc. launched “esaypump home infusion therapy app”, offers educational content to clinicians and patients on safe usage of B. Braun Medical’s easypump elastomeric infusion pump. Furthermore, companies are focusing on collaborations and mergers & acquisitions to expand their market share. For instance, in January 2015, Fresenius Kabi (Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA) entered into multiyear distribution agreement with Halyard Health to distribute Halyard Health’s disposable elastomeric intravenous infusion pumps. By this agreement Fresenius Kabi expanded the product portfolio.

Geographically elastomeric infusion system market has been segmented into following regions Viz. North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. North America is largest in terms of value in elastomeric infusion system market followed by Europe. North America accounts highest market share due to increased prevalence of chronic diseases like gastrointestinal complications, abdominal herniae and increased number of surgeries. Asia Pacific expected to show fastest growth rate due to the development of healthcare infrastructure leading to more construction of small and mid-sized hospitals, and increasing number of local players and start-up firms entering this market. The Middle East and Africa region is projected to be a potential market for elastomeric infusion system owing high prevalence rates of chronic diseases that require surgical procedure but less disease awareness among the patients.
Some of the players in elastomeric infusion system Market includes B. Braun Holding GmbH & Co. KG (Braun Melsungen AG.) (Germany), Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA (Fresenius Kabi AG) (Germany), Halyard Health, Inc. (U.S.), Leventon S.A.U (Spain), Ambu A/S (Denmark), Baxter International Inc. (U.S.), Nipro Corporation (Japan), and Woo Young Medical Co. (Jincheon) to name a few.
