Languish: A Haunting Violet novella - Alyxandra Harvey

This was a cute little extra short story that happens after the events of Haunting Violet. Since its a short story, this will be a short review.

Violet is working on her medium skills at Lord Jasper's manor. Colin is also there working as a gardener. Tabitha is living there since her father is away and her uncle is in prison. I was wishing that there was a little more Violet/Colin stuff going on, but it was still good. Oh, and Violet's mother is currently a mistress. She has such high hopes.

Overall, this was a great little extra story to go with the novel. It was cute and it still had a plot. Maybe I'll read some more of Ms. Harvey's books.

Haunting Violet - Alyxandra Harvey

I'm so happy that I finally read this book!! It sounded like such a cool idea and I loved everything about it! Violet helps her mother perform fake seances. Violet feels terrible about doing this and stealing people's money. She works with a boy named Colin to make these fake seances happen. He doesn't like doing them, but he is an orphan who needs money.

After performing so many fake seances, Violet doesn't believe in ghosts or mediums, but after having encounters with the ghost of a girl her age, she starts to believe. She must find the girls killer so the girl can finally be at peace. With help from Colin and a friend, Elizabeth, she has encounters with many more ghosts and almost dies multiple times. She finds out that the girl's killer is near her and will do anything to kill Violet, too.

Violet

I thought that she was great, but I also felt so bad for her. Her mom was making her pretend to be someone she's not and is being forced to have a relationship with a guy who doesn't know the truth. Then when he finds out that her mother is a fake medium and was born out of wedlock, he drops her because her mother tells her to. He cares about her, but he cares more about how other people think of him. But this girl was strong and got over it!!

He didn't deserve her anyway!

Colin

I love me a sexy Irish boy. I really do. I knew that him and Violet would get together. They pretty much grew up together and he cared about her so much and they were just so cute!! He thought that she deserved better than him, but she knew he was perfect!

Celeste

She was Violet's rude mother that I could not stand! She just lied all the time and would tell Violet what to do, but she didn't follow her own rules. She ends up becoming a mistress to some young lord, and she was so proud of herself. She got the life that she always wanted.

Rowena

She was the ghost that Violet had to help. She almost gets Violet killed because Violet has to help her. But she eventually gets put to rest and becomes happy.

Elizabeth

She was Violet's best friend that didn't care that Violet was in a lower class than her. She also believed Violet when she said she could see ghosts. She was a great friend! I also loved that she didn't care about being a proper young woman and likes to eat!

Overall, I thought that this was a great book! I always get a little worried about stand alones because they might not develop the plot and characters as much as a series. I hope to read more books by this author!

Reseña: Haunting Violet
Haunting Violet - Alyxandra Harvey

Me encanto Violet.

Amas a quien debes amar y odias a quien debes odiar.

Esto fue mas aterrador de lo que pense que seria. Las imagenes de las descripciones fueron muy graficas. Para todos esos que aman los sustos se los recomiendo que lo lean en la noche. A mi me funciono

5 estrellas sin duda. Me encantaria ver mas de Violet y Colin

Haunting Violet - Alyxandra Harvey Haunting Violet - Alyxandra Harvey 1872: Violet's mother earns her money by pretending to be a spiritualist, talking to the deceased relatives of the bored or desperate ones, who have enough money. It is all fake though, Violet and their orphaned Irish servant Colin are helping to set up the tricks. Then, out of a sudden, Violet does see ghosts for real, one of them, Rowena died a year ago and is trying to lead Violet to her murderer who seems to be among the guests of their host, Lord Jasper. All the while Violet is torn between two men, the reasonable choice: rich and charming and good looking or the choice of her heart: Colin, the boy she grew up with, who put spiders into her bed in their youth and whose kisses are making her knees weak, but from an even lower social step than herself.
I really loved the atmosphere of spiritualists, pretended seances and real ghosts at the end of the 19th century. The love story is quite foreseeable, but sweet nontheless. The language seemed a bit too modern in parts for me and some bits of the story are a bit too easy/ fast paced for my liking, but overall this was a great read. Love, humour and suspense in front of a historical background.
To me one of the highlights so far this year!
