What Lies Between
What Lies Between - B.N. Toler

My reviews are honest & they contain spoilers. For more, visit:

What Lies Between is book 2 of B.N. Toler’s Where One Goes series; one that was most anticipated by many of us who loved book 1, Where One Goes. It was one of my favorite reads of 2015 and a 5 stars at that. B.N. Toler was a new to me author and she blew my mind with her storytelling. I was pretty sad that there won’t be a sequel to the story when it felt like it needed a one badly. In that sense, this is a very lovely surprise that I didn’t expect to see but was extremely happy nonetheless to see it becoming a reality.

As usual with my reviews, I’ll begin with a bit of backstory. Where One Goes is narrated from multiple first POVs of the main protagonists; 3 of them. But it begins with Charlotte, our h, trying to help out one last soul before she became of them. Charlotte had a lovely childhood until a few years ago when a tragic accident that changed everything. One moment of impulsive decision took the life of her elder brother Axel and left her badly injured. As she was recovering from her near fatal injury, Charlotte found out the most astonishing thing that had ever happened to her!  She could see spirits; souls in limbo that needed help in crossing over. Since she wasn’t used to it, Charlotte needed help alongside the love and support of her parents in gradually becoming used to with her new ‘gift’. However, her strictly religious parents couldn’t connect with her ‘issues’, thinking she’s become mentally unstable and their relationship deteriorated to a point that she was told simply to leave. Just go away , was all she got. Ever since then Charlotte has been on her own, trying to eke out a life herself and doing what she was meant to be doing; helping out souls that needed her help.

Where One Goes
Where One Goes - B.N. Toler

My review contains spoilers and they're mostly my thoughts as I went with the book...

Oh My God! What a story! Where do I start?! I don’t even know if I can even express myself eloquently when it comes to BN Toler’s Where One Goes! When I started this book, I didn’t know what to expect. The author was a new-to-me but the blurb sounded so very intriguing that I had to read it. So glad that I did!

Have you ever wondered where a soul goes when it crosses over? Or, have you ever imagined yourself falling in love with two people, at the same time, when one of them is just waiting to crossover into that unknown?

Just as me and you, Charlotte has never imagined any of these things happening to her. She was a regular kid with a loving family of parents and an elder brother, going to school, then college, with the prospect of a better life... until one day, when everything changed in the blink of an eye. She just got in the same college as her brother, Axel; a brother who is as loving and supportive, who had never minded her trailing his shadows all through her childhood. Even in college he was her guardian angel. A drunken night and an accident take everything away from Charlotte, though she had no idea that Axel, who was with her, had passed away. How could she when, in her drug-induced, fevered dreams she saw her parents... and Axel, standing at her bedside, giving her the strength she needed to recover from the grave injury? Was she awake, had she dreamed of him? Charlotte couldn’t understand when she finally came to and learned of the passing of her beloved brother.

Distilled Spirits
Distilled Spirits - Lynne Loni

My review contains spoilers and they're mostly my thoughts as I went with the book...

Last year, I was lucky enough to discover this talented author whose debut novel, Wanted: One Ghost, blew me away completely. It had everything I would want in a paranormal romance, suspense, mystery, action... and a sexy ghost coming to life with the help of the heroine. I was thrilled learn that there’d be a sequel to the story, of another character who was introduced there only by mention. Distilled Spirits is the story of the sassy tavern wench, Millie Taylor, who is said to haunt the Old Town Tavern to this day.

Wanted: One Ghost, that started it all, tells you the story of the founding father of Kings Mills, James Addison, the second son of a British Lord who settled in here in the mid 1800s. He had done some great things for the place that paved the way for this small town. He was also a ladies man and Millie Taylor, the tavern wench said to have been his paramour. James was hanged in his early 30s on the charge of treason that he never committed. His ghost has been haunting the past 238 yrs. in search of justice, or at the least, to tell someone the true story behind it all. Unfortunately, he has never been able to connect with anyone. He would roam around the area where he used to live and died, especially each anniversary of his hanging. It was one of that anniversaries that he finally finds someone who can see him and communicate; April Branford, a college student having the gift of psychometry.
