Review: Surrender by Pamela Clare
Surrender - Pamela Clare

♥♥♥ 4 HOT HIGHLANDER STARS ♥♥♥

This was my first Pamela Clare book and I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to read more from this series.

It all begins with the exiled Highlander Iain MacKinnon, being trapped into joining the British Army--along with his brothers-- where he will lead a group of men at war. Meanwhile, Lady Annie Burness Campbell is all alone. She has lost her father and now she has lost her mother. But she saw what happened to her. This knowledge is the cause for her being forced into the life of a simple maid in America, leaving her luxurious life behind. When she escapes from her abusive masters, she bumps into Iain. From then on, their strong chemistry between them becomes to difficult to avoid.

When I started the book, I was intrigued. I wanted to keep reading to see what would happen because both characters go through some tough situations. Once these two characters met, I really liked the sexual tension between them.

She could not imagine her life without him. This past month had been the happiest she'd ever known. Never has she felt more alive. At times it was hard to believe such joy could be real. Each morning she awoke in his arms, and each night she fell asleep sated from his loving.

Annie was quite brave, especially after everything she went through. She was smart, kind, and loving. I really liked her. She was a bit naïve, but that was understandable to that period of time. As the story progressed the more courageous she became. There was even a part where she stood up for herself from the person she feared the most. So, I was so happy about that.

Never had he been so intimate with a woman, her every thought and feeling as important to him as his own. Never had his heart and body and soul belonged so completely to anyone. Never has his dreams or days ahead mattered more to him. Never had he felt so mortal.

Iain...what's not to love about him? He was that sexy, protective highlander that you can't resist. He was strong, heroic, alpha, and good-hearted. I loved him! He made me swoon with how he treated Annie. He was just so freaking perfect and so freaking hot! And his brothers were equally as hot and intriguing. You will love him.

I liked the slow build up between Annie and Iain. It was done really well. And the steam of this book is really great. It wasn't too much or too little. The sex scenes were perfect. I enjoyed the fact that there was emotion to it. That is what melted my heart.

The writing of this book was done so in a very well manner. I absolutely liked Iain and Annie. I loved the quirky and boisterous secondary secondary characters and even came to like Lord William Wentworth--who was very questionable throughout the book. Was he a villain? Was he a good guy? He was probably a bit of both but I still enjoyed the role he played in the story. There were parts of action from the war, but I will admit, I wasn't really into reading the descriptions about the war. I was more into the story between Iain and Annie. I really liked the ending, especially the Epilogue. I was so happy for them that I couldn't help but smile. A wonderful read, for sure. It had everything a historical romance should have. I definitely recommend those historical romance lovers to give this one a try.

Review: Outlander By Diana Gabaldon
Outlander - Diana Gabaldon

♥♥♥ 4.5 "Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ" Stars ♥♥♥

“For where all love is, the speaking is unnecessary. It is all. It is undying. And it is enough.”

I seriously don't know how to review this book. I just don't know how. First off, this had been on my TBR shelf for quite some time. Why on earth did I not read it sooner!?! I'm kicking myself for that. Yes, one of the reasons was the fact that it was so long. I was afraid I would spend all this time reading it only to not like it at all. But, it was the total opposite. I LOVED this book!!! It was a crazy but entertaing story. Full of ups and downs that brought out so many emotions out of me. It was just awesome!!

Claire is a former combat nurse from 1945. After being married for quite a few years to her husband Frank, but being separated for the most of it because of the war, she is finally able to spend time with him. Her husband is into everything history, and learning about his ancestors. One day, she goes to see some stones known as the 'Craigh na Dun', and soon returns to gather some flowers that peak her interest. When she touches one of the stones, she accidently travels to a different time. It's now, 1743 Scotland. And in this time, it is where she meets the attractive Jamie Fraser. I really liked Claire. My goodness, the things she went through. I don't think I would have been able to handle it the way she did. She was really brave, although sometimes she could be a bit careless, which did piss me off at times. But overall, a strong, intelligent, and brave woman.

Jamie Fraser is rather shy at times, but also tends to talk his mind alot. He is stubborn, sweet, selfless, protective, and just plain swoony as hell!!! I don't want to give all of the story away because it's better that you experience it for yourself. But I absolutely LOVED him!! I mean Love, Love, L-O-V-E-D him!! *HUGE SIGH* He was just so... ( have no words. And yet, he also pissed me off quite a few times because he was just plain wrong in his actions. But in the end, you just have got to love the guy, it's really hard not to when he is SO damn romantic, sweet and fierce to protect those he loves. I want to keep gushing about Jamie's awesomeness. Just know that I LOVED the everloving crap out of him!!!

“I can bear pain myself," he said softly, "But I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have.”

●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●  ●

The book was definitely long, and a tad bit over descriptive for my taste. I just felt like at times it was unnecessary to add so much description. But during the important scenes, it did make the story really come alive for me. I loved the two main characters, even Claire, who I never thought was annoying. Especially when the entire book is in her POV, you think I would get even a little annoyed, but no.

He leaned across the fence, reaching, and I stepped into his arms, feeling the heat of his body and the beat of his heart.

“I love you."

The romance was superb! I thoroughly enjoyed any scene with Jamie and Claire being affectionate with one another. I told you before how descriptive this book was. Well, in the one area it was not, was during the sex scenes (and some really violent scenes as well). It was very brief, and by brief, I mean really short and no real decription of what is happening. But that didn't matter to me because the feeling you get when you read it, is what made me love it so much.

“Ye werena the first lass I kissed," he said softly. "But I swear you'll be the last.”

The whole story spans a year, from the moment she enters 1743. The beginning was a bit slow. It was hard for me to get into, I think it was the way they spoke, I don't know. But once Jamie entered the picture, I could not put this book down. It was a crazy ride, that is for sure. I laughed, swooned like crazy, got angry, was hurt deeply, cried my eyes out, and felt so dang happy while this book. Some of the events that took place were absolutely HORRIBLE. I was actually glad that during some violent scenes things weren't overly descriptive because my heart hurt enough as it was. The ending was beautiful, though. I was left with a really blissful feeling and it actually left me wanting so much more of these characters. So I can't wait to read the next book of this series. I highly recommend this book if you haven't read it, you really should!! It was really amazing! It has become a favourite of mine. It is definitely a story I will never forget.

This is also being turned into a television show on Starz which will be airing this year. I can't freaking wait!!! *squee*

*Warning: Contains scenes with violence and some that are suggestive of rape*
