Soul Possession
Soul Possession - Maya Banks

Jessie is a waitress at the bar that Rick and Truitt go to. Rick and Truitt have both flirted with Jessie and do so each time they see her. Both want to take her home with them, so they proposition her together, and each time she declines. Then one night, she gets falsely accused of stealing and fired. On this night, she accepts their offer. Then, the morning after, she is accused of murder and then soon after kidnapped by a serial killer terrorizing the city.
Whew! There is so much packed in this novella! I did enjoy the ride, lots of hot sex. Good, likable characters. Jessie didn't need saving and I appreciated that. I do think Jessie let Rick and Truitt off a little too easily. I think more groveling was necessary after what they did (or in this case didn't do).

Inside Out & Back Again
Inside Out & Back Again - Thanhha Lai

Another bedtime story finished, and another one to read again when Lily is older.

This is the story of Hà, a refugee girl from Saigon, who flees with her mother and three brothers, at the end of the Vietnam war. She and her family end up in Alabama, where their otherness leads to hurt and frustration. But ultimately, Hà and her family find their place in their new world.

Hà's story is based on the author's own life and experiences as a young girl from Saigon. I found the book on a list of books that featured people of color, wanting to expose Lily to the various peoples and cultures that she's likely to meet here in this melting pot country.

This story gives us the opportunity to see our home through the eyes of a newcomer, which is so relevant right now...

Inside Out & Back Again - Thanhha Lai

Our new bedtime story. It's told in poetry, rather than prose.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: Illustrations by Michael Sieben - Michael Sieben,L. Frank Baum

I'm not sure if I ever read this book before, but I bought it thanks to the unusual illustration style of Michael Sieben, thinking Lily would like it. We just finished it up as her bedtime story, though at 2.5 years old, she's short on attention, so we'll be reading it again when she's older and more appreciative :)

Possession by J.R. Ward $1.99 !
Possession: A Novel of the Fallen Angels - J.R. Ward

When Cait Douglass resolves to get over her broken heart and lose her inhibitions, she’s unprepared for the two sensual men who cross her path. Torn between them, she doesn’t know which to choose—or what kind of dire consequences could follow.

Jim Heron, fallen angel and reluctant savior, is ahead in the war, but he puts everything at risk when he seeks to make a deal with the devil—literally. As yet another soul is unwittingly caught in the battle between him and the demon Devina, his fixation on an innocent trapped in Hell threatens to sidetrack him from his sacred duty....

Can good still prevail if true love makes a savior weak? And will a woman’s future be the key, or the curse, for all of humanity? Only time, and hearts, will tell.
