Risk Taker (Mixed Messages, #3) by Lily Morton 4 Stars!
Risk Taker - Lily Morton

Being in love with your best friend is hard.

Henry’s the odd man out. All his friends are settling down, and his reputation as the Hook-Up King of London seems more like a curse than a blessing these days. Especially when it keeps photojournalist Ivo, his best friend and the brilliant man he’s loved since they were fifteen, at arm’s length. But that’s where Ivo wants him, right? Putting aside his feelings, Henry decides to give up casual sex and look for the real deal. After all, he has no chance with Ivo - or does he?

Henry is everything to Ivo. Best friend, soul mate, the one person who has never let him down. The one person he is loyal to above everything and everyone. But Henry’s in a box marked best friend and that’s where Ivo’s kept him for nearly twenty years, despite steadily falling in love with the gentle man. And besides, why would Henry want to date Ivo? Burned out and injured, he’s the walking embodiment of damaged.

Distance has helped Henry and Ivo keep a lid on their attraction, but when they find themselves in the same city for a change—Ivo hurt and needing assistance, and Henry more than willing to provide it—the two best friends grow closer than ever, forcing a realization, and a decision. Risk their friendship for their hearts? Or can they have both?

From the bestselling author of Rule Breaker and Deal Maker comes a tender love story about two best friends who are perfect for each other, and always have been - if only they knew it.

Review

I think that both Ivo and Henry was powerfully depicted in this friends to lovers, loved you forever romance.

Henry is the bee's knees in all his bookworm care taking sexy ginger self. Ivo is pretty damaged and afraid. But all their actions make sense to me so while I might not have like how Ivo processed his feelings all the time, I got it. Plus, he gets therapy which I always like to see with characters who are this wounded.

The love between these heroes is tangible and we get to enjoy the banter and the ache as well as the cast from the series as well as a great dog. Good stuff!

Deal Maker (Mixed Messages, #2) by Lily Morton 4 Star Review!!
Deal Maker - Lily Morton

Sometimes your mouth makes deals that your heart can’t honour.

Jude is a highly successful model, but a very reluctant one. His life is full of casual hook-ups with pretty men in glamorous locations, but it’s still empty. However, circumstances decreed a long time ago that this was his path, so he’s resolutely stayed on it and accepted his fate with good grace. He made a deal with himself and his hook-ups. Get in, get out and no ties with anyone.

However, an accident at home one night leads to him making a new deal and accepting the offer of help from an unlikely source. It leads to an unexpected summer of falling in love with a larger than life man and his child.

But by the end of the summer his reasons for not staying are still valid. Will he turn away? Can he?

Asa is a talented actor who has spent time away from the scene to look after his son. But now he’s back, and the last thing he needs are complications from the gorgeous man who is staying with him. Scarred from too many betrayals, he has no intention of forming a lasting tie with anyone. However, he can’t resist the beautiful man with secrets, and to his horror he develops feelings.

But a deal’s a deal and they said it was just for the summer. What can Asa do with a man who has forever in his eyes and goodbye on his lips?

Review

A wonderful emotionial romance. Jude and Asa resist falling in love but fall they do and it is a joy.

Asa is quick to judge because of his past and this makes him pretty spiky but Jude is just to too lush and really sweet. We have a cool kid in the mix here too which raises the stakes a bit.

Wet get to know each hero as they get to know each and that is the most fun. The circle of friends is here and the banter makes this book very fun.

The HEA is epic and well earned. Enjoy!

I will read anything Lily Morton writes
Risk Taker - Lily Morton

There is so much of my book catnip in this story. First we have “best friends to lovers” which I am always up for reading, especially when it’s m/m. Which is another of my catnips. Then there is Morton’s humour. Dear lord, her books are so funny! I absolutely adore them because I know that the entire time I spend diving into them, I will wear a giant smile on my face.

I think what I loved most about Henry and Ivo was how richly Morton writes their friendship. I absolutely believed these two were everything to each other and that’s why they were each terrified of taking that next step and admitting their feelings. Their chemistry, even before any sexual or romantic entanglements, was off-the-charts.

As always, with her books, this was pretty much a one-sitting read. While each of her series features characters that are interconnected, so it’s fun to start at the beginning and see how secondary characters develop into the stars of their own books, you can pretty much pick up whichever one catches your fancy and get reading.

So get reading already!

Risk Taker
Risk Taker - Lily Morton

This just really didn't work for me and honestly little things annoyed me more than they should have over time. I loved both men so it was not that. But were they really 34 years old? There is a gap of about 10 years in their relationship and in Ivo's artistic endeavors or lack there of, that seemed missing completely. Referencing a photograph and possible exhibition at the beginning that went unresolved, then comments about picking back up painting and implications that he had not painted since his father died, back during college (what I assume is 12 years earlier???)...and yet he is a well-renowned artist?  I am also not really sure they ever really talked to each other the way they should have and by the end I was just worn out on them both.

Hate it for me. Book 1 in this series is brilliant and definitely my favorite of the 3.
