The Mole People Beneath the City - Evans LIght
The Mole People Beneath the City - Evans Light

Effective short story that has a unsurprising but decent twist to it. The writing is engaging and the author managed to do a lot in just 20 pages. The small amount of detail offered about the mole people was enough to make me curious about what happens in their city.
Interesting story and lead character that I wished had been a little bit longer.

THE MOLE PEOPLE BENEATH THE CITY Review
The Mole People Beneath the City - Evans Light

This is probably my second favorite story from Evans Light. I really dig the premise, and would love to see it expanded upon, maybe even as far as novel length. It reminded me of the what-ifs posed in Preston and Child's RELIQUARY, a book I had big fun with.

My only complaint is a typical one when it comes to really good short stories: I wish it were longer. Other than that, THE MOLE PEOPLE BENEATH THE CITY is well-written, flawlessly edited, and brimming with creepy ideas. The "countdown" kinda shows the author's hand too soon, but there's nothing really wrong with that. You're still left with a decent amount of dread concerning the fates of those who are taken.

In summation: A creepy little piece of fiction based on the urban legends surrounding the miles of unused and forgotten subway track beneath New York City. Recommended if you need to kill fifteen or twenty minutes.

Undertow by S.M. Stelmack
Undertow - S M Stelmack

I enjoyed this book, it was not overpowering on the romance, but it was main part of the book. Although, without the romance portion of the book I think the book would have felt incomplete. I also really liked the concept of a secret world deep underground, it's something that hasn't been explored by many fantasy/paranormal writers.  The cool thing is that there really are whole societies that live under most of our major cities.

The big bad was pretty cool in this book too, they were like these mole people who have been living under our cities for many years, and they're anything but human!

The Mole People Beneath the City
The Mole People Beneath the City - Evans Light Reminded me of The Midnight Meat Train, but then again just stepping on a subway reminds me of that story, but this was a pretty good short in the same creepy venue beneath NYC. I enjoyed it.
