Hmm, okay. Basically, The Accident Season had an amazing premise. Every October, Cara and her family become extremely accident prone. And they have the most horrific accident experiences, up to the point where some family members have come close to dying. The question is: why are these accidents happening?
This book was pretty meh for me. We don’t know anything, but it takes a ridiculous amount of time for revelations to start coming in, and when they do, I felt pretty meh about them too. I mean, I guessed the track of where some of them were going, so that wasn’t a huge surprise for me.
Like, I had a feeling Christopher didn’t run away with some woman. Just because the fact that he called and the way that Melanie would constantly talk about it. I also knew that Elsie wasn’t really a living thing. There’s no possible way that someone can find a girl in all of her pictures and that no one knew a single thing about her! I mean, come on! Elsie was also related to the accident season. Surprise, surprise.
Something I enjoyed greatly was the writing style! I feel like the author had a way of writing something, so it’d feel like I was floating between the pages. The writing was . . . mystical. I mean, I can’t really find words to describe it. I also think that that’s the way the writing should be experienced. It just makes the story feel more real.
Even though a lot didn’t happen in this story, I was pretty invested for most of it. I mean, there was the writing style, the characters, and the constant revelations. But by the time I finished this story, I still felt really unsatisfied.
Also, I’m just going to point out the most disturbing thing here. The relationship between Cara and Sam. Just wrong. So your parents marry, you get a new stepbrother. The dad leaves, and so the ex-stepbrother stays with you. Perfect time to fall in love, right? Wrong! This relationship is disgusting and felt borderline incest to me even though it wasn’t! But there’s still a bond. There’s still a limit. But . . . UGH! Just gross and wrong!
Overall, The Accident Season was a pretty meh book for me. If you want something that it more magical realism then you should give this book a try! The thing I can say about this book is that if you’re interested in it, then that’s the time to read it. I think the writing style is what’s best about this book. Other than that, I’m not sure if I’m going to read something else by this author. This book felt pretty okay to me.
Thanks for reading my review, guys! Hope you have a great day and until the next one! :D
