Trouble With Gargoyles
Trouble with Gargoyles: an Urban Fantasy (Moonlight Dragon Book 3) - Tricia Owens

Opens with Anne and Mel facing off against each other eating hot, spicy chicken wings. Anne did this, in part, to get away from her shop which has a curse on it. Her pawn shop is already has its "normal" curse- she has walls that drip blood, a man whose face is being eaten by maggots appears in her bathroom mirror. This particular curse is worse, and quickly taken care of. Someone is stalking Anne and her friends (or are they?).
This installment has Anne's friends too. Both Anne's snarky narration and her friends humor make this a fun book. My favorite is Mel. She made me laugh. More revelations for Anne. She learns the truth about her parent's murder. She finds a journal that her uncle wrote for her that leads to both answers and questions. Vale comes clean about some things he should have shared long ago. Be interesting to see if Anne can continue to trick a certain entity. Looking forward to seeing that entity being taken down.

Black Diamond
Black Diamond - Susannah Sandlin

Glad that Jena has her own book.
Jena, recovering from the events of book 1 is finally back on duty. She is self-conscious about her scars. Cole had something Bad happen and he decided to move and live off the grid. He succeeds until the arrival of drugs in his backyard.
I thought Jena and Cole were a good match because of things that happened to them. (I surprised to read about what happened to Cole- I thought he was hiding from someone). I liked the secondary characters- Ceelie and Gentry make appearances (and Paul, Mac). Decent plot and the villains (while guessed about 1/2 through), were good ones. I would liked a bit more at the end, I thought it was a bit rushed.
Jena's parents are TOXIC.

Wild Man's Curse
Wild Man's Curse (Wilds of the Bayou Book 1) - Susannah Sandlin

Gentry Broussard is a wildlife agent. During patrol, he catches a poacher and notices a boat outside one of the remote cabins. That cabin belongs to Eva Savoie. The boat being unusual, he decided to investigate. He then sees someone leaving. Shocked and surprised because the person leaving looks a lot like his older brother. Who is/was supposed to be dead. Gentry then finds Eva murdered.
Ceelie left Louisiana after she promised her father she would. Barely eking out a living in Nashville, she gets the call that her Aunt Eva was murdered. She does back to Louisiana to settle her aunt's affairs. While there, she meets Gentry and his partner, Jena. (I hope Jena's is the next book).
I enjoyed this book. Both characters are likable, well-fleshed out. I liked the depth of Ceelie's family and her realization to do something she wanted to do vs trying to live up to a promise she made her dad. I thought the secondary characters were also well done. Here's hoping Jena gets a book. (And yes she does- it's the next one, just looked!).

Taking Charge
Taking Charge - Ruth Cardello
Lucy, introduced earlier in this series, took a loan from someone with a questionable reputation. This individual takes advantage at a time where she is down. David falls in love at first sight. With Lucy and during a period where she was down.
I could have gotten on board with this. Instead, it just pissed me off. I'll start with Lucy. I got tired, so tired of her inner monologue. I really, really didn't see why David fell head over heels. Her self-esteem is so low, with little improvement throughout the book. She also puts up with a liar, who supposedly did all of the "for her own good." Bullshit. And that leads me to David.
I could have gotten behind David, but his behavior at times was stalker-ish. He also lied to Lucy. Repeatedly. When he had an opportunity to come clean, he lied again. He even involved her friend, Sarah. Presumably, "for her own good." And guess what? All is quickly forgiven.
FAIL.

Hunting Down Dragons
Hunting Down Dragons: an Urban Fantasy (Moonlight Dragon Book 2) - Tricia Owens

Anne and her quirky friends are back. More is found out about the "Oddmakers." Will be interesting what job the Oddmakers have her do (assuming for future book). She did find out more about that happened to her parents and was able to get some closure (and vengeance).
The cameos continue their creepiness "Death to Anne Moody."

For Square #24 Adventureland.  Exotic animal on cover.  Dragon.
