True to the Highlander by Barbara Longley
True to the Highlander - Barbara Longley

Overall this was a enjoyable time travel romance. I liked that the heroine was different from other time travelling lasses, she is half native american. She also plays the violin, which she just happened to have on her when she went back to 14 hundred something.

I forgot the write down the date before I returned the prime loan. :)

So she made some baskets, knew about plants, caught, killed and skinned rabbits to make furs. So the weaving into the story some of her heritage was interesting. But I think I would have liked to see that explored a bit more.

So the juxtaposition of the highland clans to the native american clans was a nice touch for a time travel. The way she explained to the highland clan where she came from and how the societies are similar. Since she couldn't come right out saying she is from the future.

So overall it was quite enjoyable, even if a bit predictable. It read really nice with a great highlander hero and a lot of great side characters. And of course there is a villain.

I am looking forward to the next one which will be about the cousin to this hero.

Wind Warror by Constance O'Banyon
Wind Warrior - Constance O'Banyon

This was my first by O'Banyon and it will not be my last for sure. I am glad to find out that much of her back list is now available on kindle. I picked this as my prime loan for this month to see if I would like the writing and now I know. I love it.

I assumed this was written a while back, mainly because I don't really come across these sweeping native american historical romances anymore in the new releases. But it looks like this was first published in 2010. And that is good news. It means these types of romance are still being written today. I have been going back to somewhat older stuff lately to find the real immersing historical romances. Somehow the new stuff is lacking some of the drama and epic-ness, for lack of a better word.

This one has all of what I ask for in a romance with the NA theme. The struggles, some ugliness, the spirituality, nature, growing love, heartache longing, culture and happiness.

It starts out dark and painful and the way to happiness is not easy and covered with sharp rocks. But those are the kind of romances I love. I want there to be some depth to it, some meaning.

I read this in almost one sitting. It was such a page turner and such a pleasure to read. It had just the right combination of everything and the sense of adventure I was looking for. I really didn't want it to end.

I'll be reading more of this author soon and I am happy to see there is an extensive back list to pick from with many different settings.

Beyond Forever by Debra Dier
Beyond Forever (Beyond the First Blush Book One) - Debra Dier

I love time travel romance. I probably mention that in every review I do of one. I love them, but they can be tricky.

They can have solutions at the end that are not agreeable to me and what I would want for the couple.

So I tend to read them with bated breath.

Thankfully this turned out to be one of the good ones. Quite good.

I understand that this novel was completely revised from an earlier published version and I have never read the old one.

I don't want to say to much as far as story goes as I think its always better to read that. I also don't want to put spoilers down. But the brief on it is that we have a Scottish Earl who died in 1816 and is a ghost in the current castle. The castle did not stay in his family as there was nobody left to pass it to.

The heroine is visiting with her grandma and niece and there she meets the ghostly Gavin MacKinnon, Lord Dunmore.

He thinks that Julia is his miracle and can help him keep his son alive if she goes back in time. So that is how she ends up there.

Hawk by Elaine Barbieri
Hawk - Elaine Barbieri

I came across this book as I was trying to decide what to pick for my Kindle prime loan. I grabbed this quickly on the last day I was able to in the month. I had never read this author before so I wasn't sure what to expect.

I am thinking the cover is from the original published version and hasn't been updated yet.

I felt like a western historical with a native american hero so off it went on my Kindle.

I was thoroughly entertained. Is there some over the top stuff? Yes, but its entertaining. :)

I had no idea how the issues between the hero and the heroine could possibly be resolved. There was a lot of bad stuff going on, a lot of hate from the heroines family towards indians in general and the hero, then a lot of hate between the both of them. It was a long way to get to some sort of redemption and of course, some things cannot be undone. But it was done in a very satisfying way, without washing it all under the rug. One can forgive, but never forget.

I'll definitely read more by this author. She kept me turning the pages wanting to find out whats next.

I had a couple of issues. One was the formatting. Oy the formatting is horrible. Words run together and the font was weird on my kindle. It is a credit to the author that I was able to get immersed into the story regardless of these issues since I normally get very distracted by them. That's a great story teller.

The other issue was that the love scenes are a bit flowery. Nothing over the top, just a tad.
