Julia Quinn is my go-to author for humor and light hearted romances. As I started to read The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy I thought I was reading another winner from this already good series. As the chapters flew by I just fell in love. Then like seeing the storm clouds rolling in to ruin a bright sunny day, I saw a huge problem looming on the horizon.
The lying and manipulative nature of Richard, "our hero", just got worse and worse and with two dumb, selfish sisters- it just didn't get better for me. The ending almost felt like a cop-out that I'm surprised poor Iris wasn't banging her head against the nearest wall! (Because I was!) I just felt so bad for Iris getting stuck with such a horrible family and a husband that knew what he was doing and yet was willing to hurt a innocent. Not matter how much Richard groveled, I felt it was just a little to late to do the right thing now..
Expect for the great family that is the Smythe-Smith everything later on felt like it was lacking especially the relationship between Richard and Iris.
The first half was wonderful and Iris is the only true bright star in this book, the rest was just a huge let-down.
