#PercyUnCovered -- First Harry Potter -- and now Percy Jackson! Guess who is getting a new look? I'm a big fan of this series and while I like the original covers, change is good.
Details on the Reveal:
Every self-respecting Percy Jackson fan knows that the next book in the Heroes of Olympus series, The Blood of Olympus, will arrive in their hands on October 7, 2014. What they don’t yet know, but are about to find out, is that starting early this summer, a new fleet of the original Percy Jackson & the Olympians series will pop up in stores, sporting brand-new, reimagined covers. They’ll also find out that when these new paperback books are lined up side by side by side, they will reveal one amazing panoramic mural, the handiwork of artist John Rocco: who’s illustrated all the Percy covers since the first rejacketing of The Lightning Thief in 2006.
Even though the books won’t be available until early summer 2014, we won’t make the fans wait that long to feast their eyes. Starting Monday, February 17th (Presidents Day), the Percy Jackson Facebook page will be revealing the new look, one book per day. Five days. Five brand-new covers.
The Teen Librarian came up with this fun event for teens this summer. She called it "A Taste of Books" and basically everyone she co-opted came up with a theme and a snack to base a table of recommendation around. It was quite a bit of fun and, definitely, food is both a good way to entice people to check out (both ways!) books and to connect them more strongly. It's good to get all those sense involved, yeah? Some people even provided recipes to go with bookmarks and books.
A sampling of the tables includes:
Mediterranean reads with hummus, za'atar, olive oil, and bread
Emotional reads with chocolate and peanut butter decadence
"Sinful" reads (ie. Challenged books in the U.S.) with red velvet cupcakes
The shrine to John Green with mint (and other green) M&Ms
Post-apocalyptic reads with jerky
Steampunk reads with scones
Mine?
Well, I was asked to do mysteries, thrillers, or horror... I decided to combine it all, so I did "Chillers" with popsicles and sorbet. I added some of the books from my table to this post.
