Rosie Dunne
Rosie Dunne - Cecelia Ahern We are introduced to Alex and Rosie through the notes they pass back and forth in grade school. Alex and Rosie are best friends. As they grow, so does their means of communication. They progress from notes, to letters through to emails and IM’s and then surprisingly back to letters again. As close as they are and as much as they believe that they share everything … they don’t. It’s that one thing they do not share that causes all the problems.

This book is written and read using various means of written communication. At the beginning of the book I thought it was a really cute idea, imaging little ones writing notes in school (complete with the spelling mistakes little ones make), folding them up in some secret way and passing them to each other under their desks. Then when we progressed to letters and emails I began to wonder if these people had telephones they could pick up to actually speak to each other. By the middle of the book I was frustrated that I was getting all the news about their lives second hand. By the end of the book, which was predictable from page one, I was beyond frustrated (and angry that Alex stubbornly refused to spell “know” correctly).

This was a cute story, with some shining moments – I loved Rosie’s friend Ruth – but I was relieved when I turned the last page.

I do have to give kudos to Ms. Ahren who, at only 23, has had two of her books optioned for movies. “P.S. I Love You” was quite successful but I am curious to see how this story, told through correspondence, will be handled by Hollywood. I’ll likely skip the movie itself, but I am curious.

Cecelia Ahern - Where rainbows end/ Love, Rosie/ Rosie Dunne
Where Rainbows End - Cecelia Ahern

I tried to rated it higher but I couldn't. The story itself is interesting but God sometimes I had to stop reading because there's only so much frustration a person can take!

The amount of angst in the book was too much (and I am one of those persons who enjoys books likes that). But all the comings and goings, all the I love him/her but it's not the time became boring after a while.

The book could have ended 150 pages before and with a happy ending too if they only had talked. I feel that the end was overstretched and, therefore, that the book became boring and repetitive. I did enjoy it but not as much as I thought I would because of those reasons.

I really liked the relation between Rosie and Alex, that pure friendship and love formed by children and continued as teenagers and adults, I loved it. I wish they had swallowed their pride a lot sooner but well.

I actually read the book because I saw the trailer of the movie but I have the feeling that is going to be one of those movies that had nothing to do with the book, maybe the movie does shorten up the angst a little and it can balance the book.

That being said if you really dig chick flick books you would like this one, probably more than me.

Love, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern

Where Rainbows End - Cecelia Ahern

Yep, the only reason I read this was because of the movie trailers.

I'm not sure this is gonna be one of those books I liked better then the movie. Hopefully, Rosie in the movie won't make so many stupid decisions like Rosie in the book. (probably not, because it looks like they're only doing the first decade of the book.)

How is the story told?

Through emails, letters, texts and instant messages. That's it. So while it makes for a fast read, you begin to wish you could read all the things that are being talked about. Like the look on their faces, or body language.

I did get emotional, but it wasn't because of Alex or Rosie. It has to do with Rosie's

parents. When her father dies, I just cried. The Letter! Then when you read about her mom. I'm sure it's because my parents are in their 60's and worry about them.

(spoiler show)

Time span: from the age of 7(?) to their 60's. Yep That's a long time period.
