Should I Share My Ice Cream? - Mo Willems

Lexile Level: 180L

This is a book about and elephant and a pig. The elephant has an ice cream cone. He is debating whether or not to share it with his friend the pig. He ends up letting the ice cream melt. But his pig friend comes with another to give to him. I would use this book to talk to my students about sharing. I would tell them to always keep your friends in mind.

The Rainbow Fish - Marcus Pfister,J. Alison James

Lexile Level: AD410L

The rainbow fish is the "most beautiful fish in the entire ocean" and he refuses to share his gills with any other fish in the sea. The rainbow fish's selfishness isolates him because no one wants to be his friend. Later on, the rainbow fish asked for advice from an octopus and  then the fish "discovered how to be happy" by sharing his sparkling gills with his friends.

I would use this book to teach my students how to share.

The Giving Tree - Shel Silverstein

Leveling system and reading level: AR 2.6

This is a book about a little boy who loves a tree and the tree loves him back. The boy grows old and the little boy moves one. When the little boy comes to visit, the tree will give him anything he needs.

i think this would be a great book to use at the beginning of the year to remind the students that sharing is caring. I would also have them write a little blurb about why sharing is important.

Anybody read hard science fiction?

It's not my genre of choice, but this book needs reviewers for its tour.  If you click the picture it'll take you to the sign-up page.
