Update: After reading Across the Universe, I have to subtract a star from this short story. Why did the author want to give us more background on the most disgusting character in the entire book?

I have no idea how this will tie in to Across the Universe, but I can't wait to find out. It was a beautiful, sad, creepy story and it should have been twice as long.
