I've had this on my list for so long it was looking a little silly. Then Amazon had it for Prime members and I felt lucky to be finally able to read it and take it off my list.

I didn't really know what to expect. I knew it was an adventurous story, but that was the extent of it really. It definitely lived up to the adventure part too! With Gods and battles and quests.... the whole bit.

This was my introduction to Indian folklore. I knew of some of the Gods, such as Shiva, but that was pretty much it. I had no idea the rich lore and history India has. So that was pretty interesting to me. Some of the terms or names were hard to enunciate but I got through it.

It was a good middle grade story. It didn't blow my socks off though. I can't put my finger on exactly why, but it was probably because I felt so green with the ideology behind it. So this became an intro into the mythology and not so much intensity and excitement. Maybe the second book will do that for me now that I know more about the culture.

Coraline - Neil Gaiman

Freda's Voice — feeling big smile

Why I haven't read this until now, I will never know, but I am so glad that I did!

It is a fun, magical and slightly scary tale for kids. I was drawn right into this weird world that Coraline has on the other side of a door. I really got to love the cat. What a character he turned out to be! The story itself was a great trip, as you would expect from this author.

Now I want to watch the animated film. Of course, I will be comparing the two.

Until then, read this one if you haven't already. It's one of his better books.

Sofia runs a blog on the school computers. She listens in the girls' room to get her gossip. Naturally she only hears part of the story then adds what she wants to make it sound juicy. She is upset when Mia, the most popular girl in school, likes Andrew, Sofia's crush. Then just when she thinks it cannot get any worse, her mother starts substituting at her school. What will she do?

I found Sofia a hoot. She is exactly like the girls who aren't popular but want to be and since she has access to blogging she hopes that she will pick up more followers for it. She also has a lot of gossip about Mia. She practices for her blog with a notebook which she loses at times. Not good because who has it, who sees it, who reads it! Fortunately she finds it but who has read it? She hopes no one but she does not know for sure. I remember Mias from my school days and it was no different back then as now.

This is fun. I enjoyed the format of a notebook as she tells her story. I also enjoyed her artwork, especially the snarky comments. They are the most truthful and school is still the same.
