I LOVED this novel!
The Price of Humans - J.L. Edwards

I couldn’t get enough of The Price of Humans. This novel follows the story of the dynamic relationship between an unlikely pair, Chaba and George. Chaba witnessed the murder of his father and thinking that justice will never prevail, leads a life of lawlessness. He lives the life of a poor man, wondering where his next meal is going to come from and doing everything he can to provide for his young daughter. George is a factory man that leads a mundane life, but also an easy one. George has a home, nice things, a crazy wife, a big heart, and a need to help people. George becomes almost like a father figure to Chaba, leading him through life, feeding Chaba’s child, and doing what he can to turn Chaba’s life around. But does Chaba really want his life turned around? Does he seek the justice that George thinks he can have?
The suspense in this novel is remarkable, there’s never a moment that doesn’t have you perched at the edge of your seat. What is really appealing to the novel is the amount of truth that is behind it, as it is a mostly true retelling. In the middle of climactic scenes I had to take a step back from the novel to appreciate that these things really did happen, this tragedies are going on, these political “myths” that I’ve read about aren’t so mythic. The Price of Humans is eye opening. intriguing, and definitely worth the read. I highly recommend this novel to anyone that needs to see that justice prevails even in the most unlikely of places.

great book and great characters
Belle: An Amish Retelling of Beauty and the Beast (An Amish Fairytale) - Sarah Price

Belle lived with her father and two sisters on their farm. Belle loves to read romances and dreams of falling in love.  Belle’s father was a dreamer and inventor but he wasn’t successful and had used all family money and had to sell their farm. Adam had bought their farm who is a local recluse. Adam is badly scarred by a terrible childhood accident. The people of the community have come to call Adam the Beast and that's basically how he acts. But he has been scarred not only physically but  emotionally as well as spiritually. The people's reaction to his physical appearance only makes it worse. So now Adam is scarred, disfigured, and silent. But Belle goes to Adam and asks to become his housekeeper so her family can still stay in the house. Adam instead offers Belle marriage and if she has a son her family can keep their farm. Belle goes into the marriage intending to do all she can to make it work no matter what. Adam’s home was filthy and Belle immediately went to cleaning their home and making good meals for them to eat. Adam has had noone to talk to in years so he is silent when around Belle even though she talked to him. Belle does believe God has called her to marry Adam.
I loved this book. I loved the plot as well as the pace. I also loved that it wasn’t an insta-love relationship instead it slowly built between Belle and Adam. I also loved the way the author used a Beauty and the Beast style when writing this. I also liked how the author showed people can live in a religious community and fall and not act in a Christian charitable way. I choked up at times and chuckled at other times. This was a quick fun great romance read. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend.

mixed feelings
Amish Widow's Hope (Expectant Amish Widows) (Volume 1) - Samantha Price

Anita was the only Amish woman on the greyhound bus. But it wasn’t her first trip. Anita’s husband Joshua had died and Anita was a widow and pregnant due for her baby in four months. Joshua and Anita had tried to get pregnant for eight years then it finally happened but tragically the day after Anita and Joshua had found out they were going to be parents he was dead.  Anita had lived alone on her and Joshua’s home for three months Then Anita’s younger  brother Amos insisted she move back and live with him and his family.  Amos and his wife Hannah had two sons  Ben was three and Sam was two. Anita’s brother expected her to help Hannah with the boys but also wanted to marry her off as quick as possible. But Hannah wants to taker her time to grieve and recover in her own way and time.  Fran was the Bishop’s wife ands also wanted to see ANita married quickly. Anita came in to dinner with Amos and Hannah and Hannah’s brother Simon was there.  Simon was six years younger then Anita and she was clearly pregnant that Anita was the one for him. Although the community feels Simon should marry one of the pretty younger women of their faith as there were a lot of these young women who would gladly marry Simon.

I had mixed feelings about this book but I did like this book. It was a quick easy read. I would have liked more information on the Amish way of life.  I didn't really like Amos he almost seemed uncaring about what the women in his life wanted and needed. Like why didn’t he leave Anita in Ohio if he only brought him to PA to help Hannah then to hurry her into marrying again even before their child was born instead of being a loving brother and understand all she was going through  and give her time she is in the later part of her pregnancy but he wants Anita to help Hannah with two young boys. I just didn’t like him Amish were suppose to kind and loving to family members. I would have liked more Anita/ Simon time also. This was also a bit predictable. I did really Anita and I liked Anita and Simon together. I also liked Hannah.  Amos just kinda took away from this story as far as I am concerned. So there was some things I liked about this book and some things  not so much.

Skin After Skin
Skin After Skin - Jordan Castillo Price Skin After Skin - Jordan Castillo Price I love the PsyCop universe. It's one of my favorite series. This one does have a different feel from the others because it has a different main character. I do prefer Victor as a lead, but I really enjoyed filling in many of the unknowns with Crash's story.
