Paper Towns by John Green
Paper Towns by Green, John (2009) Paperback - John Green

“Here’s what’s not beautiful about it: from here, you can’t see the rust or the cracked paint or whatever, but you can tell what the place really is. You see how fake it all is. It’s not even hard enough to be made out of plastic. It’s a paper town.”

I think Paper Towns is my favorite John Green book yet!

Paper Towns portrayed one thing from the premise that seems to be the real question in this entire book: who is the real Margo? But, I think that this book did a better job of showing a lot of other things as well! :D My favorite part of this book was the first third, when they show the night that Margo takes Quentin on her journey.

I loved Quentin as a character, he didn’t come off as extremely boyish—I guess that makes sense, a guy author wrote a guy—and he seemed sensible and practical. Well, at least until a certain point, anyway.

I also loved the friendship dynamic shown in this book. Between Radar, Quentin, and Ben I loved all of them for different reasons! Quentin is such a loyal person and has equally loyal friends. :D

Unfortunately, at a certain point in the book, I lost interest in where Margo was. Also, I couldn’t see what was so amazing about Margo that

Quentin, Ben, Radar, and Lacey leave their graduation for an ungrateful, stuck up brat who just tells them off and doesn’t even feel thankful for having such great friends.

(spoiler show)

I do not mean to offend anyone, but that is how Margo came off to me in this book. Maybe some people loved her, unfortunately, as complex as she is, I did not.

There were many questions that were asked in this book, but in the end, I still liked Quentin more than anyone and I just didn’t really care for Margo. Quentin, you’re a great guy, man. I also liked how at a time in this book, Quentin didn’t let Margo change his thinking. Things that don’t matter to Margo do matter to Quentin. And he’s completely honest with her, so that was great on his part!

Overall, I think that Paper Towns is one of the John Green books that I love. If he ever writes another one like it, I’ll be the first to read it! I did think that I cared more for the characters than the plot at a certain point, and I also think that this is because of Margo. Anyone who’s a John Green fan will enjoy this and I think that if you were disappointed by The Fault in Our Stars you’ll enjoy this one more. :D

Thanks for reading my review everyone and hope you have a great day! Until the next one! :D
