Vein of Love (Blackest Gold) (Volume 1) - R. Scarlett

Molly was turning nineteen and that was suppose to mean ultimate freedom. But molly felt anything but free. Molly called September and said she was going to Stella’s for the birthday party Stella was having for her. She wouldn’t stay late as she had to work at the museum the next day. Fifteen years ago a ring had been put on Molly’s finger when she was six and no one could seem to get it off her finger. Michael came over to  say hi , he had been the guy who had went out of his way to make her comfortable the first day of ninth grade. But Michael had kept her in the friend zone ever since. Molly would get added strength at random moments and she could never control it. Molly had then been attacked by a woman who had snakes for her hair and just as she was going to bite Molly’s neck a man- Tensley came and broke her neck. Tensley was with a young woman-Lex- about the same age as Molly and they took Molly home Lex told Molly the thing that attacked her had been a gorgon and had her own agenda for Molly.Molly swung hard at Tensley with the poker in the stomach as the ordered they had to get her out of there as Molly was being followed. Then Lex introduced herself and told Molly they were the least of her worries.Lex also told Molly she didn’t have to worry they were going to keep her safe. Tensley then said three hundred years of protection for what? Tensley said he knew a lot about Molly. Molly wanted to know how Tensley knew about her. Derek was Molly’s father and he told Tensley to get out and Tensley reminded Derek of the contract that was made in his ancestor's blood. Tensley’s family had protected Derek’s family for three hundred years in exchange for a daemon who possessed the blessed eyes from Derek’s bloodline. Then Molly took Tensley up to her room and he told her he was an incubus, a demon. Then T^ensley told Molly she was his fiancee. Also that Molly didn’t know it yet but her eyes held a rare power. That as his wife Molly’s power would become Tensley’s as well. Then Tensley told molly Incubi receive power, energy and strength from physical contact. Tensley also told molly if she tried to hide he would break all her father’s limbs. Now Molly felt terror for her family. Tensley’s father came into his office and told him what Dubre Abaddan wanted and he also requested to see Tensley. Tensley knew not to make his father mad but he grew restless from taking orders from someone else. Tensley had been bred to take over the business of serving the Prince. His family was depending on Tensley to resurrect their name after Beau’s scandal. Evelyn had been with Tensley five years then a week ago Tensley told her he had to marry in an arranged marriage. She showed up at his office and told tensley to figure something out soon. Molly’s eyes white eyes glow when her emotions are heightened. Demons are not allowed to feel emotions. Molly’s ring had been keeping her identity hidden but the magic has worn off. Others are able to detect Molly now and wanted her. When Tensley touches her Molly feels something. Molly goes to a  group of demon hunters to help her break the contract.  When Molly went to the demon hunters she didn’t want anyone to die. But molly was making the situation between demons and hunters worse.

I liked this new twist on demons. I didn’t like how Tensley was a jerk but also understood he had to show no feelings. Also Molly could be very stubborn. The story kept my interest all the way to  the end then the cliffhanger ruined it for me so that brought this down to a three. I don’t care for cliffhangers in any form. I basically liked the characters and the ins and outs of  this story but the cliffhanger ruined it for me.

Vein Of Love
Vein Of Love - R. Scarlett Vein Of Love - R. Scarlett Crystal's 3 Star Review
I just couldn’t get behind the whole premise of the story. Too much going on and not enough time for the author to clarify. I know that there is more in this series, but it was too much in one book. I liked it, but wasn’t wowed or anything. This is Molly and Tensley’s story. Molly, a daemon with the eyes to match has been betrothed to Tensley since she was a child. Only problem, Molly doesn’t know anything about it. Her parents have kept everything from her. Heading out on the night of her nineteenth birthday to a party thrown by friends, she doesn’t listen to her parents when they request she stays home.
When Tensley shows up and saves her from a gorgon (think Medusa), he has to explain things to her. Neither one is happy about the situation. Tensley’s happy (as happy as a demon can be) with his life and doesn’t need or want Molly. Molly doesn’t want to be around demons (well, who would). Finally it comes out that 300 years ago, an ancestor made a pact and the time has come to fulfill that end of the deal. A Daemon is a rare thing and now on top of running the family business, he has to worry about protecting Molly from the other creatures that go bump in the night until the wedding takes place.
I will be ready Body of Crime (Blackest Gold #2) next.

Synopsis

Three centuries ago, Molly Darling’s ancestors signed a contract in blood—daemon blood—to protect themselves from harm. On the eve she turns nineteen, Molly leaves for her birthday party against her parent’s wishes, sick of their warnings about her “betrothal to a demon.”

Except that she’s very much betrothed, and he’s very much a demon—one who’s only agreed to the nuptials to steal Molly’s ancient daemon powers. Brash, arrogant, and built like a Greek god, Tensley Knight keeps showing up to save Molly from otherworldly attacks, only to insult her a moment later.

As Molly learns more about the demon world, she realizes two things: that her family’s safety depends on a successful marriage, while any chance of freedom she’ll ever have calls for Tensley’s demise.

Yet sometimes Molly spots a tortured soul beyond those liquid grey eyes, and there’s no denying the way her skin tingles when Tensley touches it. In Vein of Love, safety requires sacrifice, foe becomes lover, and one must decide whether to kiss…or to kill.

Excerpt

Before Molly sat down, she rolled off her trench coat, and he groaned when he saw her dress. The black satin hugged her curves, flaring mid-thigh, and the sweetheart neckline plunged dangerously low, exposing her supple breasts; she was a walking threat to his every fucking cell.

He painfully cleared his throat, begging himself for composure, and angrily sat down, fingers restlessly tapping against his thigh. He readjusted himself beneath his pants.
Keep your distance. You’re dangerous to me.

All he had to do was remember his brother’s vicious face and heavy fist from years ago, all caused by that human seductress, and he collected any softness, any kindness in him and replaced it with an icy detachment.

Love in Vein
Love in Vein - Stavros I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Linnet and Z are on their way to New Mexico one of many road trips that they often make. Linnet is not always thrilled with these road trips seeing how Z is always the culprit for these little rides. But it is Linnet's car so she goes a long for the ride. But this is one trip that Linnet makes every year. Linnet goes back to the place where the storm happened in New Mexico every year. Linnet is such a good person that she always has a hard time saying no to Z or anybody for that matter. Linnet feels real bad for Z since she found out that Z's blood parasite is dying. She lets her get away with anything.

I enjoyed reading the new twist on vampires about their Jadaraa Soo which is a blood parasite. This blood parasite lives under the skin of the vampires and is always hungry for blood. The Jadaraa Soo is a whole new twist on the vampire genre for me. I have not read any other book that even speaks of a blood parasite or even a Jadaraa Soo, although the Jadaraa Soo did make the series more interesting. In Love in Vein Linnet and Z are being chased or hunted by a police detective who is out to get them. But this detective is in for a real surprise because he doesn't have a clue as to what he is hunting.

Linnet didn't like the monster that she had become. She didn't like that she had to bite humans and drink their blood in order to survive. No matter how hard she fought it the parasite inside of her would always win out. Linnet would always loose and drink from someone and they would die. She couldn't control what she had become. But she was a vampire and had no choice she was only doing what became natural to her as a vampire even though she still held on to her humanity in ways.

I highly recommend Love in Vein if you are looking for something different in your vampire books or paranormal reading list. If you are looking for something that is just slightly different than your normal take on vampires then Love in Vein is the book for you.

Love In Vein: Twenty Original Tales Of Vampiric Erotica
Love In Vein: Twenty Original Tales Of Vampiric Erotica - Poppy Z. Brite Let me just say that there were some OK stories in this book. Not good, definitely not great, but OK. With that being said , the overall rating I gave this book is still one star because the bad outweighed the good. And I just could not get the second story out of my head the whole time I was reading this. It was a horrible story. I was going to go into a big paragraph as to why I hated it but I think I'll skip that. I love vampire stories and horror stories but obviously these types of stories just weren't my cup of tea.
