The Very Hungry Caterpillar
The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Eric Carle

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a great informative and entertaining book for young readers. The illustrations and the holes in the pages will keep readers interested. Science can be easily incorporated with this book because metamorphosis is described from the egg stage to the caterpillar finally becoming a beautiful butterfly. Students can also watch an animated film of the book and see the metamorphosis in depth and the book come to life! https://youtu.be/75NQK-Sm1YY

The Hungry Caterpillar
The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Eric Carle

This book was very popular when I was younger, and it's still just as popular today. This book will take its reader through the journey of a caterpillar into a butterfly. Everytime the hungry caterpillar eats something new, a bigger hole appears in the pages. This allows the book to be visually interesting to children as well as interactive. This is a must have to every teachers library!

How I will use this in my classroom:

I would use this in my classroom during a lesson on the metamorphosis process of a caterpillar into a butterfly. I would also use this book to help test my students prediction skills!

"One Sunday Morning..."
The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Eric Carle

Review:

This book was one of my favorites growing up. This book introduces the life cycle of a caterpillar. It goes through each phase of its life in an interesting way. This book is also interactive because each time it eats something another hole appears in the book.

Classroom Activity:

I would use this book in my classroom as an introduction to the life cycle of a caterpillar. We would use the K-W-L chart to tap into our prior knowledge of caterpillars. Once we gather our chart, we will read the book and review the life cycle by creating a chart. I will also be asking the students to record both our charts inside their Science Notebooks. We will also have a class caterpillar that we can document, in our Science Notebooks, what all we see daily and how it becomes a Butterfly.

A {Very} great book!
The Very Hungry Caterpillar - Eric Carle

This is a cute little story about a caterpillar and his journey into eating his way into becoming a butterfly. An activity that I used for kindergarten was to have a paint stick painted Green with a caterpillar head glued at the top. I had clothespins with each of the foods glued to the end of it. We read through the story once and then as we read it again, the students would clip the food to the paint stick (caterpillars body.) I think it turned out really cute and definitely something I would want to use again to introduce sequencing or retelling.
