Teenage Depression: How to Recognize the Signs is a very informative book and a much needed book in todays society. Depression has been around for a long time and society presents it as an adult diagnosis. However, teens have been dealing with depression just as long as adults. The difference is kids show their depression in a different way. Over the years, doctors thought kids were just acting out, or being lazy, or just pouting because they didn't get their way. We now know that many of the signs that were considered unimportant or just normal misbehaving by teens are really signs of a much bigger problem. There is not a lot of information available about teenage depression and I wanted to add reputable and educational knowledge that is now known to the mental health field. I am a licensed mental health counselor and this has been an interest of mine. The world became more aware of depression when Robin Williams commited suicide. The world was shocked because Robin was a comedian and we all thought he was so funny and happy. But this horrible situation brought much attention to depression and that there is so much more to learn. However, what we do know is if you have a teenager that is depressed, their chances of being a depressed adult increases greatly. The earlier the intervention the better chances the depression can be managed sooner.

In this book you will learn about myths vs. facts, causes of teenage depression, warning signs and symptoms of teenage depression, the effects of teenage depression and how to be supportive of teens while they are involved in treatment. All of this is so important because teens go through so many changes like hormonal changes, trying to fit in, trying to figure out who they are and who they want to be when they grow up. All of these stressors can build up and if no one is watching or paying attention the teen may feel alone. There were two kids in my daughters senior class who commited suicide in the first two weeks of school. It was horrible and no one knew these kids were struggling.

My hope is that this book will be read all over the US and the world so we can all learn more about teenage depression and how we can be part of the solution. Parents make sure you hug and kiss your children and pay close attention to their behaviors and moods. Be involved in your teens life. They may act like they don't want you to be involved in their lives, but really they want to know their parents care. If this book helps even one teen get the help they need then I know it made a positive difference. Get your copy today and spread the word about teenage depression. Tell everyone you know how to recognize the signs.
