This is another "what to read after Hunger Games" recommendation from Jen over at EPBOT.I really enjoyed it - the first indication being that I read all but the first chapter in one day. Interesting characters to be sure. Everyone is grey - there are good guys and bad guys, but not where you'd think...

Naughty Naughty Michelle, here I go to update my review of a previously read book only to find that I never reviewed it!I am a big fan of Tamora Pierce, I love that she writes about strong female characters, and I love how her stories are NOT focused on romance and sex. (though they may contain them...

I read a couple Tamora Pierce books as a kid and liked them well enough; I'm out of her intended age group now, but still enjoyed this book. Terrier is the story of a teenage girl, Beka Cooper, and her first months in the City Watch (known as the "Dogs") of a medieval-ish city. Beka works in the rou...

Set in a Tortall centuries before Alanna, Beka Cooper shows us life in the poorest part of Corus. It's a hard life, with lots of violence, which Pierce once more manages to describe vividly, and Beka and her friends soon feel real and very, very likable.

Sixteen-year-old Beka Cooper lives far removed from knights, palaces, and the nobility. Her world revolves around thieves, beggars, taverns, and the lowest of the low. She's a trainee for the Provost's Guard; a rookie cop (aka puppy), in a world where a cop makes her own name based on her personalit...

This was the book that I bought at the Borders in the city on my first day of marriage after eating my first romantic breakfast with my husband. I got a lot of treasured moments out of it in early mornings while hubby slept in.This book is so different to any of Tamora Pierce's other books. When I...

Plot: from Amazon.com: "Orphaned Beka Cooper, 16, is a trainee-a "Puppy"-in the Provost's Guard. Having spent the first half of her life in Tortall's slums, she is driven by the need to do what is right and see justice done. Paired with two of the best Guards, or "Dogs," in the organization and aide...

Although Terrier is the most recently written of the Tortall books, chronologically it is the first. Rebakah "Beka" Cooper (the six-times-great-grandmother of George Cooper, from The Song of the Lioness quartet and later books) is a trainee Dog - the slang term for members of the Provost's Guard, an...

Tamora Pierce is one of my favourite authors, so I'm always eager to read her books, especially the ones set in Tortall. Terrier did not disappoint :) It was a bit different from the others in style in that it was written as a diary and concerned some of the grittier aspects of city life than we got...
