This new edition, which is the fourth to be written by Professor Rogers, takes full account of the many developments in the law that have occurred since the last edition was published in 1984. Rapid changes in the law have led to substantial re-writing of much of the text. For example, the "Consumer Protection Act 1987" has necessitated a new chapter on liability for defective products, explaining the ambit of the new statute in detail, as well as covering the common law, which remains important with regard to property damage. The effect of the "Occupier's Liability Act 1984" has been integrated into sections on occupiers' liability to trespassers. Other prominent House of Lords decisions discussed in this edition include "Wilshire v. Essex A.H.A." on causation, "Re McC." on judicial immunity and "Smith v. Eric Bush" on misstatements and exclusion clauses.
