The stories range from the macabre to soap-opera like tales. The darker stories, "The Five Orange Pips," "The Adventure of the Speckled Band," and the Engineer's Thumb" are some of the most engaging. The lighter fare, "The Adventure of Beryl Coronet" and the "Red-Headed League" still allow Holmes to...

I am a big Sherlock Holmes fan - as well as British mysteries - and this is a great book, compiled of several of his best cases. I thoroughly enjoy going through the cases with him, though I admit that a lot of times I am just as stumped as Watson. Sherlock Holmes is another obsession of mine.

"On glancing over my notes of the seventy odd cases in which I have during the last eight years studied the methods of my friend Sherlock Holmes, I find many tragic, some comic, a large number merely strange, but none commonplace; for, working as he did rather for the love of his art than for the ac...

I find these adventures an absolute bore. (i've read only 3 chapters from this volume) And I was able to guess ahead as well. Also hate the know-it-all tone of Holmes. I suspect I might like 'watching' a Holmes series. But reading it is extremely dull work. I refuse to make any further attempts to d...

His stories are cute little engrossing tales that spare all of the excess information that I couldn't careless about. Highly recommend this book to you if ...

If there is one thing that I have to say about Sherlock Holmes and that is that he is a freak. To be honest with you, to me, Sherlock Holmes is to detective stories what Lord of the Rings is the fantasy novels, basically everybody since Doyle has been attempting to create a character that is either ...

Ah, Sherlock Holmes. Methodical detective work at its finest. I find it telegraphs the ends more than more modern detective novels, but I kind of like that, given that it gives me more of a fighting chance to figure out what Watson can't. And indeed, I did very well with this collection. There were t...
