I read the free sample for this book ages ago, and liked it, but wasn't inflamed with the desire to download and finish it. But I saw it in paperback just before traveling this weekend, so I bought it to read when all our electronic devices were supposed to be off.If it doesn't set you on fire, it's...

The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker is her debut novel. Read my full and more in depth review at my blog, V for Vilde. The Age of Miracles lacks excitement and engaging content. In my opinion it is the narration that was the focus, rather than the story in my opinion, and that cannot carry a...

I guess my take on this novel is that it is just a dime a dozen coming of age story written with a twist. This one with a "dystopian" flair/genre to make it stand out a bit. However, the same pains and tribulations of being a early teen are present. Eh, Meh!

One of those rare books that just has everything. It's a far-fetched world that you believe anyways and live in while you read it. It's sweet, it's melancholy. Just loved it through and through.

I found this to be a profoundly moving coming-of-age story. Julia is eleven the day the newscasters announce the Slowing: for reasons scientists can’t explain, the earth’s rotation has begun to slow, making days and nights a little longer with each passing day. At first the change is barely noticeab...

I just finished this book, and while I can say it was very good, it just wasn't for me.What kept me going was the writing. But I didn't really care much for the main character. I guess it's all these fantastic dystopians I've been reading - she's only 11 turning 12 and in the 6th grade. I kept fo...

This novel is beautifully written, but lord, what a downer. I really wish someone had been a lot less vague about the exact nature of the book in its synopsis. And the cover seems a bit childish once you've actually read the thing and then close the book and look at this cheery, star-filled image. M...

This tells of the impact that a significant event has on the life of a young girl, her family, friends and where she lives. It assumes that the rotation of the earth slows, such that each day is no longer 24 hours long, but is getting longer and longer. It's an interesting twist on the usual coming o...
