Best-selling author and committed knitter Stephanie Pearl-McPhee has written several very funny and amazingly interesting books of essays about knitting, life, and the way one is often an excellent metaphor for the other. In this new collection of essays that are mostly about the life part, she writes about e-mail, parenthood, the mental scars that dodgeball can leave, and what she really should have done about a skunk before it thought it owned more of her house than she did. These are stories about some stuff that happened while she was knitting, but skip over the knitting jokes that your sister never understood anyway. The shrewd insights about everyday escapades -- both touching and humorous -- are honest, entertaining, and about stuff that we all understand: life, kids, falling down, and the amazing thing about the way it goes.

As it lacked knitting, this one didn...
