Reading this story was a pain in the neck. All I could think was, "Dumb! Da Dumb! Da DUUUMMMB!" I know the author set Edna up as a flawed tragic character, and boy, was she really flawed. This is not a character that I would ever claim for feminism. I honestly hope feminists are a bit smarter than t...

I have never read a book that has left me with such mixed feelings. Talk about wrangling with demons. Writing this review has been like that for me as well, very mixed. We modern women take for granted that we have a choice with our thoughts and deeds that aren't dictated by the male figure in our l...

A fascinating book. It is an early feminist novel, but suffers from the same flaws as the protagonist. The book is written in the third person, but is glued to the main character's location and perspective, which is a style of writing that I like. The main character "awakens" by rejecting her marri...

Well, I didn't like this story. I was very annoyed at the characters the entire time I was reading it. Doesn't mean it's not well written, doesn't mean I consider it a 'bad' in whichever sense that word may be construed.

A book that was undoubtedly groundbreaking for its time and important for later times, but I had trouble relating, in no small part because I don't find the literary quality very high. As one exception: the character of Mme. Reisz and the role she played in Mrs. Pontellier's awakening was clever, ch...

This gets three stars because I like the nature of how this story was crafted. The subject matter was also intriguing, as I like the psycho-social aspects of individuals and how they relate and interact with those around them.working review below, more proper one to come.I despise the main character...

This was, by far, my least favorite book I read in tenth grade. What I disliked about it so much was how my instructor gushed about this book, but really it was quite awful. As I read the book I thought I would be more sympathetic to the characters, nope. Not a bit. The problem, and tendency, with a...

RATING: 0.5 STARSEw. I really did not like this book. I kept hoping it would get more exciting but it didn't. It was bland and too predictable. The characters are all boring and shallow and Edna is extremely unlikable. Robert, Victor, and Adèle are all right, I suppose, but too old-fashioned for lik...

Apparently, this is some kind of feminist manifesto. The main character is completely vapid and is of little interest as a human being. I see Jane Eyre or Mina Murray (from "Dracula") as being much better characterizations of women after whom one might want to model oneself. This book isn't awful, b...
