A work to be enjoyed at length. The language is rich and the story is complex.

You have a flashback. Then the story. Then the story-within-the-story. Then a novel-within-the-novel. Then the story-within-the-the-story-within-the-novel-within-the-novel. Then you have some newspaper articles and letters stringing it all together. The Blind Assassin is truly a feat in crafting and...

At the end, I was this close to shedding tears. It is over, I thought. Some actions were finally carried out. But it was not any better at all. Pain could never be erased. Life and lives could never be resurrected. It is over.My friend warned me of the possible very strong feminist theme in Atwood's...

I've heard so many raves about this book. I'm left wondering why. It was ok; more like a 2.5 than a 3 but hey, I'm in a generous mood.It took a long time to get through the book and I kept waiting for some major revelation. I kept hearing "it's 2 stories in 1!" But for me, there was more like 10 stories. I was submerged, enthralled, surrounded by [b:The ...

The Blind Assassin is a strong piece of fiction from one of our top writers. It's the story of a woman whose life is filled with secrets- hers, her sister's, her family's- some of which stay hidden forever.

It is books like this that make me continue to select titles from the '1001 Books to Read Before You Die' list. This book starts out fast, with the death and possible suicide of Laura Chase, the narrator's sister. The rest of the book is a flashback of the events that led up to the accident intert...

This was the first novel I read by Margaret Atwood and I have never stopped since. Although initially I felt it was a bit slow, the pace was right and you were eventually dragged into the story, like in A Thousand and One Nights.

The Blind Assassin is nothing short of a remarkable feat for any writer, but because this was written by Margaret Atwood, it is almost expected of her. Only one who has mastered the craft of writing would be able to weave the four narratives presented without some tangles and tears in the way. The t...
