In a future when being overweight means additional taxation, an innovative weight-loss clinic comes up with a groundbreaking system. Workers called Reducers have their brainmaps downloaded into overweight clients so they can lose the weight for them. When the clinic launches its first division for clients under eighteen, seventeen-year-old Morgan Dey jumps at the chance to earn credits to help pay off some family bills. After a successful first mission, Morgan accepts a unique off-campus assignment. As anti-Institute protesters grow increasingly outspoken and she's plagued by stray memories from her host body, she begins to realize she stands more to lose than the 100 pounds she signed up for. This novel explores the meaning of self in a brave new world: are we our minds or our bodies?

Reducers who have their souls brainmapped into the Loaner's body and their job is to help them lose weight. The Loaner's soul is also brainmapped and held in a comput...
