Fantasy Review Barn Many works of fantasy tell epic tales without a single non-human character in them. Most have largely human casts with a sprinkling of non-humans thrown in for effect - a few elves or dwarves or demons. But here we have a world, it seems, with no humans in it at all. The main cha...

4/5; 4 stars; A-The Cloud Roads is what I tend to think of as classic fantasy. There is no confusion in my mind as to whether this is urban fantasy or paranormal. Its a good story about a man looking for himself and his home and all the struggles he has to find his place against some pretty daun...

Managing to be at once alien and familiar, Moon's journey from wounded loner to champion was touching. Wells's world is accessible, but the unique details making up her ecosystem are vivid and interesting. This book reminded me of the stories of Temeraire, though I love that THE CLOUD ROADS gives ...

This book blew me away for its intense worldbuilding that somehow never once slowed down the story or the writing. Martha Wells, you had me at disemboweling claw. The Cloud Roads is high fantasy and by that I mean NO HUMANS ALLOWED. Instead, there are all kinds of interesting species--those of the air, those of the land and those of the sea but the main character Moon has never met any that are like him. When h...

Absolutly enjoyable read. The world is fascinating- diverse peoples and a sense that the world is far older then most of the civilizations currently on it. Lovely.

(Isn’t it beautiful? I love the detail, and I found it helped when it came to picturing the Raksura race.) After hiding in his human form and constantly travelling between different races of humans, Moon is finally caught out. Having been spotted transforming, Moon is discovered for what he really i...
