This was an interesting look at a life in Iran told by the great-granddaughter of the last emperor, she grows up in a country full of turmoil, a country going through growing pains which are making everything very complicated and war allows fundamentalism take charge. She documents the changes, whi...

Amazing graphic novel about the author's childhood in revolutionary-era Iran. I learned a lot about this time and place. I also enjoyed her artwork with its heavy black lines and highly graphic style. The sequel is also very good.

I like this one much more than [b:Maus|15195|Maus|Art Spiegelman|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327354180s/15195.jpg|1658562].I read this book on a night train, going to do some travelling all by myself. This was brilliant: a graphic novel depicting the coming-of-age of a young Iranian girl living in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, who is eventually sent to live in Austria for 4 years for her safety. It shows the horrors of living in a war-torn nation, as well as how terrifying it must be to liv...

I intentionally avoided the movie version of this book. I wanted my reading experience to be unspoiled, even by trailers. Now, having read the book, I shall have to go see the movie.I am the same age as Marjane Satrapi. As I reflect the events of this book, I remember my perception of events in Iran...
