The Corrections is well written and intelligent, but lacks a certain something. I think that for me there is a commonality in certain American contemporary writers, such as Michaal Chabon, Neal Stevenson, Phillip Roth, Thomas Pynchon and Don Dillio where there is a certain indulgently patronizing a...

I had a flatmate who referred to certain after school tv specials as "a pamphlet". I would have said that Franzen wrote a pseudo-intellectual "pamphlet" with the Corrections, if middle class neurosis had been worth discussing and diagnosing.

What a romp! Lots of fun reading this one. This is the book that turned me on to Franzen.

I love a good dysfunctional family epic, but THE CORRECTIONS made me nauseous. Then, there were moments when I wan...

This book is very well written. If you like that kind of thing, and I do, you may want to read this book just for the prose. Maybe you'll have an issue with word choice occasionally or something like that, but overall, the writing is superb (characterization, narrative, dialogue, voice...). I was pa...
